Well i have had my two little kittens since last Thursday and they both have the flu , they are both on antibiotics , the little girl Tinker seems to be getting through it now and has eaten her breakfast with her tablet in it, but Wellington has not eaten a thing , this is his second day without drinking or eating.

I am thinking of phoning the vet see what he suggests because although Wellington has not eaten he still jumps on the furniture and changes his sleeping chair , but not eating or drinking is giving me cause for concern now i dont want him getting dehydrated :(

It is very very dangerous for a cat not to eat and they can develop hepatic lipidosis in as little as a few days without eating. Here is an article and video on this (http://healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2011/12/13/feline-hepatic-lipidosis.aspx).

You need to start syringe feeding him food and water immediately. Here is a helpful thread on how to do it (http://www.thecatsite.com/t/227858/syringe-feeding-lucky-video-if-your-cat-is-not-eating). You can use any canned food blended with water and get a large syringe from the drugstore (29CC or above) feed him 29 cc at each feeding which is one ounce and you want to replace the calories he normally eats.

What are his symptoms? If he is congested getting a humidifier or taking him into a steamy bathroom may help. The supplement l-lysine also is helpful with congestion. He really should be seen by a vet again if he is not getting better and please please follow my advice on syringe feeding him water and food because I can not say enough how dangerous it is for cats to go without food and water for two days.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Hello,

Maybe he is not eating because his nose is congested? Did the vet recommend any nose drops? That would really help with his breathing and smelling stuff. Maybe you can try with a more appetising food, something that has a more powerful smell? Nevertheless, going without eating or drinking is never a good thing and you should give the vet a call, if you can.

I have two kittens who both had the flu, the boy has a nasty herpes virus that damaged one of his eyes but the girl went through this without complications. The boy also had a bad episode of fever and vomiting when the virus was the most active, and he had to have iv fluids and all sort of antibiotics. Because of his sensitive nature, his intestinal flora was also damaged because of the antibiotics and I then had to give him probiotics and digestive enzymes. Maybe you can give both of them as prevention some probiotics?

The virus will eventually lay dormant and there will be no more sneezing and goopy eyes, but the little guy really needs his strength right now, water and food.

I am going to phone the vet at 8.30 when they open and explain whats going on , Wellington looks fine and has just jumped up to sit on my lap , so i will see what the vet says he did mention cream for his eyes Tuesday if they get any worse but his eyes seem better today not runny and he isn't sneezing today so far.

My son put a bowl of food before he left for work and some of the food is gone from it , i dont kow which kitten ate that food now , but i got a reply from son saying Tinker never ate any of it but i came down stairs and some was gone so it could have been Wellington , but i need to get the antibiotics down him .

When you give him the medication please also give him water with the syringe because it again is very dangerous for a cat not to have water for 2 days. Do not squirt it down his throat but in the side of his mouth and let him swallow. Try giving him some treats and if he refuses I would also try to give him some food via syringe. You might want to pick up some meat baby food tomorrow (without onions or garlic) because a lot of cats will go crazy for it and will eat it when they are sick.

hi and thank you, i dont know which virus they have the vet never took any swabs he gave a thorough examination though and then prescribed the antibiotics . Tinker sounds stuffed up but she is now eating and using the litter box fine. Wellington has not sneezed at all this morning , he is sleeping on the sofa now seems really content and alert as hubby is doing his ab crunches lol he is watching him .

Again I have to caution you that is extremely dangerous for a cat to go days without eating and you need to syringe feed him if he is not eating. I am not sure why but there are a lot of very irresponsible vets who do not properly caution people of this and I as well as many others have lost cats due to not eating. Please read the information above and if he will not eat treats or baby food he needs to be fed with a syringe or he will go downhill very quickly.

Did the vet not have one? They should sell syringes at pretty much every pharmacy and even some pet stores have them. It is better to get a big one but any size will do at this point.

A syringe should only be a few pounds at most and I am sure either the adoption centre or the vet would be happy to give you or sell you one. Again a pharmacy should also have one or a pet store. I do not want to belabor the point but he really cannot go three days without eating and this is very much at the emergency stage and he needs to get nutrition in him ASAP.

It may work but not sure if they need to actually suck for them to get liquid out- if you can squeeze the liquid out it may work. You would also have a hard time using wet food with it unless you really blend it. You could  get a liquid meal replacement like catsure ().

The best thing would be a syringe that looks like this:
