My one year old maine coon has an ulcer treated with steroids for a month. It helped a little bit but never quite went away. Now I've put his sister on raw food for extra protein as she's a new mama and he gets into it too. His ulcer is HUGE now and I feel so bad for him. Anyone ever find a cure for these ulcers?

Hi there!

I have never had to deal with a rodent ulcer but I started looking through past threads on the site when your question popped up. One person treated their cat with l-lysine which worked (http://www.thecatsite.com/t/225542/food-for-cat-with-rodent-ulcer-allergy#post_3331962). It was also mentioned that not feeding on plastic and omega 3 oils work (http://www.thecatsite.com/t/229386/some-questions-for-those-who-have-dealt-with-rodent-ulcers). Here is an amazing thread with answers on the condition by a great holistic vet and she gives some really good treatment ideas (http://www.thecatsite.com/t/163684/eosinophilic-granuloma-complex)

Allergies do also play a role as stated in the above threads, is he on the raw food as well? A raw diet, homemade diet or grain free wet would be best.

I also was reading the dust mite allergies can cause granulomas in cats so that may also be an issue (http://healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2013/05/08/house-dust-mites.aspx). Fleas can also be an issue and here is another article that really describes the condition well and the different causes (http://www.marvistavet.com/html/eosinophilic_granuloma.html)

Good luck and keep us posted!
