Okay so I have made a vet appointment for my two kittens to address
1. The loose stool
2. The sneezing
3. The gagging or coughing occationally

What questions should I be asking? I don't want to walk away and go darnit I forgot to ask! I often do that for myself at the doctors until I decided I had better make myself
notes!
We go tonight after supper, thanks!

Make sure to ask about Coccidia and Giardia and get them tested (http://frontiervet.com/2012/07/30/coccidia-and-giardia-the-non-worm-parasites/). I would also ask about feline herpes for the sneezing.
Thank you for these suggestions. We took our two kittens to the vests this evening and they are now on medication for the sneezing as well as one has a very red throat which explains her coughing too! We gave them one pill each tonight, one pill a day each until finished. I also mentioned the other tests and we are to collect stool samples all Monday and then Tuesday morning take them in to be sent away. We were also told that they didn't need to stay on the gastro diet and to get them back on kitten food which we have to transition them to. I feel bad to change their food on them again but I was feeling iffy about the gastro diet anyways so glad to be taking them off that.  I knew something wasn't right with them and glad I decided enough was enough and got them in to the vets. Hopefully the medication helps and we get some answers with the other tests. I will write with follow ups to let you know how they are doing etc.

Good news and yes keep us updated and hope they are on the mend. If they are still having the stool problem I do suggest trying them on boiled chicken for a few days and this will let you know if there is something in the food that is causing it.

Hello, how do you test for tritrichomonas on cats that do not have diarrheic stools? Dr. Jody Hopkins website says to use Lactulose to stimulate a loose stool.

If your cat doesn't have chronic diarrhea, I wouldn't think you'd need to test for it.  I would consult with the vet if you have cause for concern with your kitty, though.  I know the test for tritrich needs a stool sample.

Did the results come back from the stool samples? Are the cats feeling better?

Thanks for asking! We took the sample on Tuesday afternoon and haven't had a call with results yet, they were sending it away. I think they are doing better since antibiotics which they are still having to have a while longer. Leas sneezing and I haven't heard a cough in a couple days. Our one kitten that we never heard meow which we later assumed wS cause of her very red throat is now giving a meow now again which I am thrilled with. I was so sad to be told her throat was red so it must have been so sore!
I will let you know the results of the stool when we receive them.
Thanks again for thinking of our kittens :)

Hi all

Just got a call from the vets and my two kittens poop was tested positive for Giardia, a single cell organizim(sp?) so we have to give them half a tablet each for 14 days. Then after two weeks they are to be tested again. Sad they have to have more meds in addition to the antibiotics they are already on but hopefully it clears up their soft poop.

Thanks for all that care about our kittens and will keep you updated!

Happy to report kittens not sneezing, coughing or soft stool anymore. We are so happy the meds cleared everything up! Thanks for all the advice and prayers!

That's a great update!
Thank you! We decided not to test again as for now at least no more soft stool and we were told that is fine. Just keep an eye out for soft stool. A 100 bucks was too much when they are fine now.
