Hello everyone, As I mentioned, Penny was rescued on June 21, I got her in the middle of July. I took her to the vet and he took 2 x-rays. He could see 5 pods. I thought she would deliver last week. I have made her 3 different nests. I got the last one today. She has been in and out of it all day for a few minutes each. Her nipples were enlarged when I took her to the vet. She was very skinny and dirty when she was found in the woods. She is getting soo large she can't even reach her back legs, never mind licking anything. I have checked her nipples daily, but they don't seem to have anything in them. Will she have problems getting to her kittens at they are born? I figure she must have gotten pregnant around the middle of June, but so I figured she would deliver around the middle of August. I am really starting to worry. Are there any other signs I should be looking for? I have read and watched a ton of material. Aside from sleeping in the middle of my glass coffee table most of the day because of the heat, and eating a large amount of food I am at a loss. I dont have any money so taking her to the vet is a last resort. Any help will be really appreciated. Sorry about the length of my post.

Liz

Hello and welcome, please don't worry about Penny not being able to reach the kittens, my Ginny couldn't get to her rear end just before she delivered. In fact the day before she had them she was trying to clean herself and rolled backwards because she was so fat. But as soon as the first kitten was born she moved round and started cleaning it and then managed to clean herself, it was amazing that after just 1 delivery she was able to get there when earlier in the day she couldn't.
It was my 1st time as a cat midwife and although I had everything that was suggested here to have prepared, I didn't need any of it as Ginny was a natural at giving birth and raising her babies, which considering she was only approx 9/10 months old herself was brilliant.
Good luck.

Lets hope she will deliver soon. This new interest in nests sounds promising - usually they take them in use very late. Their instincts is they dont want them to become smelly too early.

They often get milk first when the kittens are born, so no milk as yet doesnt need to be a big problem.

Middle of juny - now end of august - she is late, on the verge to begin to worry.  do you have access to a vet who can give her oxytocin to provoke a delivery?

Another tip to get things going can perhaps be to get her to move some, get her into play for example.

Unless she "got into circumstances"   AFTER rescuing.  I mean, there was perhaps a young tom  at the shelter? "dont worry, its just a kitten"

When did you began to feel the kittens move?  You can usually feel them about two weeks before delivery, so it is a decent fair check point.

Persons skilled in palpating can often feel them somewhat earlier.

Good luck!

Well don't I feel like a fool. Penny woke me up in the middle of the night. She delivered 5 kittens between 8:25 and 10:25 am. I moved her kittens into a nice clean bed and she followed. I went back 30 minutes later to check o. them and she had had a 6th!!!! SHE was so tired the baby was still attached to the placenta which she had also delivered. I had to scruff her and make her seperate the kitten. I am so impressed with her performance. Thank you all for your suggestions. I feel like I wasted your time. Now I just have to find some good homes:lol3:

Well, this thread makes me feel better! Our foster cat was taken off the streets June 25th and I'm absurdly excited for her to go into labour. It's nice to know that Penny finally had hers! Congrats on the little ones! :)

I have been waiting weeks for Molly to deliver and am
Convinced she will be pregnant forever. I know she is due, has lots of signs, including milk for about 5 days and kitten movement well over 2 weeks but she just eats and sleeps all day and night. I'm really hoping for kittens soon.

Good grief, are they quite sure average pregnancy is 64 days? It certainly does feel like forever. I don't even think I was on pins and needles like this when I was waiting to pop with my own three kids

Molly's temperature even dropped, then went back up. The vet says I have nothing to worry about though. I swear I noticed she was pregnant the first week of July, but I'm hoping now I was wrong. I'm giving her through the weekend and taking her to the vet.
