Hi there i posted on here a while ago about my kitten having issues with loose stools. We seemed to think it may have been a change in food the last time and she has been good since then. Although yesterday she seems to have relapsed. Her poop has become runny again after NO change in food or anything else in her environment. She is quitr fluffy and we noticed she was a bit smelly (some of her stool was stuck on her fur so we trimmed it and gave her a bath) we thought perhaps it may be stress?? Any ideas??

What are you feeding them now? I know you were advised last time to try a grain free wet or raw diet. I would advise looking into trying a novel protein food as this could very well be a food issue still. Here is a good article and video on treating pets with food allergies (http://healthypets.mercola.com/site...012/05/07/protein-diets-for-pets-allergy.aspx). Your kittens may also have IBD and here are some good articles on this (http://healthypets.mercola.com/site...012/09/24/pets-gi-inflammation-treatment.aspx) and (http://www.littlebigcat.com/health/inflammatory-bowel-disease/).

Have the kittens been tested for coccidia and giardia? They are very common in cats and are not covered by general deworming. Because of false negative tests it is advised to test a few times. Here is some info on giardia (http://healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2012/03/19/giardia-infection-on-pets.aspx).

I think your best bet is to take them to the vet to be tested for coccidia and giardia and see if there is something else going on. If disease is ruled out I would try again to address the diet. You may also want to try some supplements. I have had good success with vitality science products for my cats and dogs with GI issues (http://www.vitalityscience.com).

It's quite possibly stress.  What's changed in your environment?  Did you open a new bag of food or try a new variety of the same brand of food?  Sometimes the recipe is reformulated and can't be tolerated.

we are still feeding them the same food...the same flavouur.....it doesnt state that its a new formula or anything of the sort. our other kitten is 100% ok (touch wood) so i doubt very much that it is some sort of potential worm or parasite etc......nothing much has changed to be honest. the last time she was unwell it couldve been the food we changed or the fact that we got a new puppy, but that has all settled now. cleo and stella (the pup) are best mates. as i said she has been fine for over 3 months or so. we were perhaps thinking it could be because we washed her last night?? i have started her on chicken and rice at the moment as advised by my vet. can cleo be unwell with worms/parasites and my other kitten flik be ok?? i don't know as i have never had cats before.

Yes things like giardia can be asymptomatic so it is very possible that one cat gets sick while the other does not.

Just because the cat had been fine on the food for a while does not mean she does not have an intolerance or allergy. If you read the articles I posted they talk about how cats can develop these suddenly.

Plain boiled chicken is good to feed and if she gets better on that then a grain free wet would most likely be tolerated well. If she does well on plain boiled chicken than it is an indication she has issues with her food. Natures variety has a limited ingridient wet that would be a good option to try.

The bath would not be a reason for this.

If she pooped after the bath, I'd say that was the stressor!  Not sure why you bathed her, but most cats don't require baths unless they've gotten into something.

If she had poop stuck to her bum before the bath that suggests the stool was soft before. If you read the article I posted on giardia it talks about how it can come and go. I think you should get your kitten's stool tested and possibly with an ELISA test.

How is the kitten doing on boiled chicken and change in the stool? If it is better than diet is probably the culprit.

Next time there is a dirty bum you might want to try pet wipes they work really well and are less stressful for the cat.
