Our male cat Tennessee ("T") has developed a pink scaly/bubbly/blistery rash on his lower abdomen and upper thighs.  It has been about 5 days now. It doesn’t seem to bother him when I touch it but he has been licking it. He has also been a little withdrawn/anti-social.

Here's a picture:

Any identification and treatment tips would be greatly appreciated.

That looks severe.  He needs to be seen by the vet for a proper diagnosis.  Have you changed litter or food recently?  That might be the cause, but your very first stop should be at the vet's office.

I have no idea what that is but it looks serious.  Have you shampooed the carpets or put down bug spray?  It looks like an allergic reaction.  Has he been to the vet's?  If so, what did the vet say?

If not, I think I'd take him, before it gets infected.

Thanks everyone, I took him to the vet this morning and they diagnosed an allergic reaction with no topical skin irritants. She prescribed Doxycycline and an anti-histamine. Hopefully this will clear up in a few days.

Any idea what might have caused this?  You need to figure that out so it doesn't happen again.

I wish I could. He had a severe allergy issue around his nose and eyes back in 2007 that went away with antibiotics and anti-histamines. He had been fine since. There have been no changes in his diet or environment, except a new ceramic water fountain (to replace a plastic one).
