Hey fellow cat lovers! I've come to this site in regards of my 3 week old's kittens anus & genitals. There's 5 other kittens so Mama Kitty has her paws full, but this one (I call him Hank) seems to be getting a little less attention. Yesterday I noticed that she had went to clean him and then stopped and went to clean another kitten resulting in feces allovers his bum and tail. I obviously cleaned him up. Today though, I noticed that his anus looked to be extremely red & swollen and his genitals didn't look too right either. I've just finished cleaning him up again but I am concerned that Mama isn't doing what she's supposed to be doing! I can provide a picture if anyone needs one (as gross as it is) but I am concerned that maybe he has a deformity/infection/whatever else??

Thanks in advance!!

This is just a guess on my part, you might want to post this in the pregnant cat and kitten forum.  In the beginning kittens have to be stimulated to go to the bathroom.  He may be full and need stimulated to go.  You can do it by massaging his bottom with a warm damp washcloth.

But again I think you should ask in the pregnant cat and kitten forum, there are a lot of people there who know a lot more than I do about taking care of kittens.

It isn't unusual for a cat to quit taking care of one out of the litter, that's how I got Patches when he was really to small to be away from mama cat.  Someone else took care of him initially and gave him to me when he was able to eat and go to the bathroom on his own.
