Hey fellow cat lovers! I have a 6 three week old kittens that are as fit as fiddle, but am a little concerned about the one named Hank! I understand that Mama kitty has her paws full with 6 of them, but she seems to be paying this one a little less attention. Yesterday, she went to clean his bum & stopped halfway to go clean another one. This resulted in feces allover him, which I cleaned up right away. Today, I notice that his anus is looking extremely red, sore & kind of like it's protruding I guess? His genitals look kind of weird too I would say, they definitely don't look like any of the others. So here's my question.. is this a deformity/infection/something else? I have cleaned him up again today but I'd like to know what to do to make sure the little guy is okay. I can provide a picture(as gross as that is) if people are interested.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to TSC.  Mom does sound overwhelmed.

If you can, he might need to be seen by a vet.  Anything raw on their genitals may be an infection.  He may need antibiotics.

I agree with Ondine. A vet should look at it. Its not only the easiest answer, but also the best answer here.  No crash emergency, but yet as soon as you can manage it practically.

Good luck!

Re cleaning up sore bottoms, or if an orphan does gets sore bottom after intensive stimulation several times every day.

An effective remedicum is to stimulate & clean with running warm water. Put the end under the running water.

Be sure to dry out afterwards.

This is not THE answer to TS, as the cause to the red bottom there was something else, more serious.

But still the tip may be partly useful not to making thing worse.

It should work in many other cases, not least, if the kitten goes constipated, and needs extra much stimulation.
