My cousins cat has a tumor the size of a quarter on its lung. The doctor gave her really no more informationexcept that he thinks the cat should get it removed surgically. the cat is onyl 4 years old and has been lethargic. Surgery would cost around 2-3000 dollars. Is a surgery like this worth it? Have any of you heard this? I hate saying "worth it" because I like to think our babies are worth a lot but my cousin has very bad financial problems and cant even apply for care credit. I dont see how she will pay for a 3000 surgery especially if the prognosis isnt good.

Hi sorry for this terrible thing happening your cousin's cat! I am not an expert on tumours but I do know a lot of people on here have effectively treated cancer and tumours so hopefully someone will respond.

Your cousin may want to look into alternative therapies since the surgery is so expensive. Here is an article on treating cancer with alternative therapies (http://healthypets.mercola.com/site...ts-and-pet-therapy-for-cancer-prevention.aspx) and here is an article on mast cell tumours (http://healthypets.mercola.com/site...r-for-pet-dogs-and-cats-mast-cell-tumors.aspx)

Thank you so much for the response. She is feeling so defeated at the moment since she has really no options. I wish there was more I could do for her. It looks like another cat will have to be put down thanks to lack of funds. So sad

Has she looked into the possibility of charity care?  It varies by area and I know the economy has been bad for awhile so donations are down but I would look into it before having her put down.  It varies as to what is available by area but she could look online.  Also she could call the ASPCA and other rescues particularly cat rescues, they might have information.  I remember years ago a member here got her cats leg amputated that way.

I have been doing hours of research, sending emails, etc. She will be applying for carefidelty now. The interest is ridiculous but she will try anything right now. She also applied for some of those charities. I dont know how long they take to respond but the cat needs help like yesterday. Im so tired of animals having to be put down when they can be saved. Im going to keep trying. Thank you all for these suggestions! anything helps

We tried so hard but the second vet she took him to said his lungs were just filling up with fluid and he was suffering. They said it was cancer and even of she had the funds to remove the mass it would most likely come back She is inconsolable and angry. She feels like all vets want is money. I'm so sad for her. Thanks to those of you who replied with suggestions

I am so sorry for your loss.  It sounds like nothing could be done.

I have been in a place where I was really down on vets also until I found a good clinic.  They are also insistent on payment but I know they do a lot of work for two of the cat rescues in town also.  It's kind of like their clinic is where they make their living and their charity work is done for the cat rescues.

I know there are some good ones out there. I had to explain to her that treating the cancer would cost up to 15,000 dollars and even then life expectancy would be less than 50 percent. I'm hoping this consoles her mind a bit but right now she's just distraught
