First of all I would like to say hi.
Any advice would be appreciated iv been reading alot about cat pregnancy and labour this will be are first and last experience of this I have experience in dog breeding so im not a complete novice but have been adopted by a female cat i took her to the vet who said she had about 5 weeks left but from what I have read i belive she is in her last few days of pregnancy kittens have been moving for about 12 days now I have several nest boxes around the house and a fully stocked whelping kit im just wondering what to expect.
Will the process be similar to a bitch?
thanks vikkie x

Yeah, it sounds near now.  Although you used to palpate dogs are probably better with palpating then the average first time cat owner, so you prob felt them somewhat earlier than the " two weeks before delivery" everybody is mentioning....

Im no expert on dogs, but I presume the procedure is more or less the same. In fact, when cat owners are despaired with coming or even difficult births, and no vet is nearby, I use to advice them to try and find some cat owner who is used with cat births, OR a experienced dog owner.  Perhaps a breeder.  If they are living nearby, they may help, at least with advices.

Several links to reread which I stole shamelessly from my collegues.

You should also find youtube films if you seek on youtube.com

One from this site:  http://www.thecatsite.com/a/pregnancy-and-delivery-in-cats.

http://www.icatcare.org/advice/my-cat-having-kittens    ( This is a link to a group of articles on cat pregnancy, birth and kittens.   Read the ones on normal cat birth and on " when to wait and when to worry"  )

Good luck!

sounds like you may be right and Kit  was a lot closer than  the vet thought.     in other words she might be going into labor.  Keep an eye on her because you don't want her having them in the litter tray!

h

IF she does proceed into 2nd stage labor,   if  you see her straining very hard steadily  with no success at getting a kitten out,     if that goes on over  half an hour, it's time to at least  phone the vet and likely bring her in.

On the other hand it may be she was just in a strange cat mood!

But if she kept going to the litter tray,   see what's happening.    She might have diarrhea ,  or if she is trying to urinate and going only small amounts frequently that could be an infection.

but what had occurred to me is she might have lost the mucus plug and is having some discharge ,  and she associates that feeling with needing to go to the litter tray .   That plus the not wanting to stay still,   not wanting you out of her sight   plus you  felt the kittens moving nearly 2 weeks ago,   all sounded like possible signs of impending birth.   or that at least she maybe sensed she was getting close.    Sometimes they will delay it longer though.

Unfortunately none of us can say for sure!    it's a waiting game.   Just keep us posted.
