Hello,
we noticed fleas on our 5 month old cats, so we bought Hartz flea and tick spray. We applied it according exactly to the directions, and made sure to keep them in well-ventilated separate rooms (so that they wouldn't groom/touch at each other). Not even an hour later, they were shaking, almost vibrating, and seemed lethargic. One cat had saliva stuck all over the bottom of his lip. We googled Hartz flea spray, and didn't like what we found. We immediately washed each cat with fresh warm water and dish soap, trying to scrub all the remaining flea spray out. They seem a little better, but are still "vibrating" and we can't coax them to drink much water (not unusual for them, but we'd like to get water into their system). There is no after-hours vet where I live, so we can't bring them to see a vet until tomorrow morning (it's after midnight now). Is there anything we can do for them before then? They haven't gotten worse, but we're still very worried

I'm sorry no one was able to answer you more quickly.  I sure hope you got them to the vet's and that they are OK.  Hartz seems to have that affect on some cats.  Washing them was a good idea!

Let us know what happened, please?

Have you taken them to the vet today?  That over the counter stuff is horrible!!

If your kitties are still acting funny, I would really suggest a vet visit with fluids to help flush it out. I learned my lesson years ago when I gave my Boo a Hartz flea treatment. We had to rush him to the overnight ER. He had a severe reaction, was trembling uncontrollably, hiding, crying, and his skin (all over) was bright red, even his ears and paw pads. It was awful. I think your quick reaction to wash them off was helpful.
