I adopted a cat last November. Todd is 6 1/2. In the last 10 months he has gotten sick 4 times. When sick it last 3-5 days. He usually barely eats ( few bites a day), drinks less and throws up everything until only bile comes out. The vet says little. Todd seems to get over it after several days and goes back to regular appetite and regular self. 2 out of the 4 times sick he also would pee on the carpet and that too stopped. The vet doesn't think it was an infection. I'm perplexed. Could it be serious but then why would he get better by himself ????

Where do you live? Do you volunteer at a shelter? Are there cats outside (feral, stray, etc)? What does he eat? Has he seen the vet while sick? Has blood work been done? Was his urine tested?

Some more information will help us.

I have 8 cats, and work very closely with feral cats that live and hang out right around our home. I've brought something inside twice (3 times?) in the past year, and it cycled through (most) of my cats. They would either vomit, have diarrhea, sometimes a fever, sometimes not. It would last 2 - 3 days, and self-resolve. Each time, I take the first one to get sick to the vet. Each time, there's been nothing to find, other than perhaps a fever. Thus our theory (mine and the vet's) that I'm bringing something in from outside. :dk:

I have brought him in to the vet sick, he had a mild fever, never had diarrhea. Todd doesn't go out side either, he's strictly an indoor cat. It's baffling.

No strays around where you live?

Does it coincide with anything, like cleaning the carpets or ... anything you can think of? Do you live in a home or a building? Could he be eating a poisoned mouse or cockroach? Was blood work done when you saw the vet? Anything to indicate whether liver/kidney values were normal (I'm thinking maybe an ingested toxin at a low dose? :dk: )

Any bloodwork or urine tests done? I would also do the separate test for pancreatitis?

Do you feed him the same food every day or do you rotate foods?  I had a kitty who couldn't tolerate any foods with fish in them.  We had to feed strictly chicken and turkey.

Todd only eats canned chicken and vet formula of dry food for urinary track diet. When he first got sick I tried changing his canned food brand until I found 2 he likes. I alternate every few days.
