Do you give everyone chores ? Which ones do you do ?  My husband just told me that the cat threw up.. I said, clean it up.I clean the cat boxes, dishes .clean the whole house and all he wants to do is get on the computer. I'm tried of doing these chores myself but if I don't it will never get done.the way I want it done.

Over the river and through the woods...
Ours are pretty simple. DH takes care of the outside of the house and I take care of the inside. Except for the garbage; he normally takes that out although I have done it a few times. Just like he has done laundry a few times lol. I would rather do laundry and dishes than mow the yard!

My husband and I pretty much split the chores, but he is responsible for mowing the grass, taking out the trash, and vacuuming.  The vacuuming is because when we first got married, he complained about how wimpy my vacuum cleaner was and it didn't do a good enough job and I needed to use his ancient, heavy, hard to operate Kirby.  I told him that if he wanted the house vacuumed with the Kirby, then it was all his job.  LOL  I pretty much do the laundry and he helps fold and hang up.  I also do the bathrooms.  He helps in the kitchen and with the cooking.  When it comes to the kitties, we split that chore as well.  If I feed and scoop in the AM, then he does it in the PM and vice versa.

Pets are mine and anything inside is mine except his 2 rooms he cares for mowing/gutters/cars is his.  If I am sick he will gladly help but sometimes it is easier to do it on own as he needs to be very guided:p  He took over cat boxes for over a month and did great.

Puke he would normally cover and tell me but if I was sick or dead tired he will put on a glove and get it(head turned far away) then lysol wipes a good portion around it...I just grab it and throw it away.

There's only me.  I do ask the cats to help but they look at me as though I really should know better.

I probably do more of the inside tasks and Rick does more of the outside work, with the exception of mowing the yard. I love to mow the yard. I grab my iPod, hop on the mower and go. He uses the push mower to trim while I'm riding.

He does more of the gardening work than I do. But I'm usually the one who vacuums, dusts, etc. Rick will get the Bissell out and scrub down the furniture and he'll shampoo the carpet.

We work together on trash night to get the litter boxes cleaned. It takes awhile....dumping out the old litter, washing the boxes outside, drying them out, and then putting in the fresh litter. Much better with both of us working at it.

I wash my own vehicles, both Hannah and Clarence, although Rick will wash their roofs for me....I can't reach them.

I pretty much do the inside work and keep up the cat boxes and feed them. My husband keeps the yard done, which is three acres. It rains here a lot so he mows every week as the grass grows so fast. He helps me in the kitchen at night when we have our main meal. He washes dishes and I dry them. I don't put everything in the dishwasher. He will also do whatever I ask him to help me. He will clean the floors or whatever. We don't fret about if one does more than the other.

Good on you!  I remember when you were laid off.. it's quite a daunting thing.  I'm really impressed that you've managed this.

I hope it grows and you do wonderfully well!

I think I said this before, but I'd hire you in a heartbeat! I remember when you got laid off, too. And look at you now!

When I lived with my parents we basically just picked up after ourselves, except that my dad cleaned the kitchen usually. If we were having a party or before the holidays we'd do a big clean where we would dust, pick up piles of mail, move the furniture to vacuum, etc. So that happened maybe once a month or once every few months depending on the season. When I lived on my own... well, that's self-explanatory.

I am now getting ready to move in with my boyfriend and we have split up the chores as follows:

Me

-laundry

-bathrooms

-dusting

-paying bills

Him

-kitchen

-trash

-vacuuming

-most yardwork (I said I'd help...... hahaha....)

Not sure how we will split up cooking... neither one of us really knows how, but so far I have ended up doing most of it, which I kind of resent. So there may be an argument or two in our future regarding who will be making the meal that night. But as far as the other chores go we both feel like we got the best end of the deal... I HATE dishes (there are no words to describe just how much I hate them) and he hates laundry. I don't mind laundry and he doesn't mind dishes... so there you go. I also prefer a much cleaner bathroom than he does, so that's up to me as well which I don't mind.

I'm pretty optimistic about our chore agreement, but of course there could end up being inequities (we don't have a dishwasher, for example) so we'll have to work that sort of thing out. Good luck dejolane, I know that's gotta be frustrating!

I very much agree, I believe in egalitarian partnerships/households where housework is shared equally. Everyone lives in the house and everyone should play a part in taking care of it and keeping it to a livable standard. The setup can vary - some people split all chores 50/50 but as I outlined above we are splitting ours by interest and least amount of hatred for the task. Whatever works but everyone should pitch in.

I also keep in mind he works I do not.  So asking him to do the grass every other week and gutters 2 times during summer seems fair enough considering he does not much else with the house except basic car care as needed-oil, fluids, spark plugs.  Anything much more then that goes to the shop or brothers.

I am also a more traditional wife in guy works girl stays home with kids(or cats and dogs:))

I have to say the times he has helped clean are great as he will go all out!  That is one of his strong points-he may delay starting something but once he gets going it will look/be amazing as he puts all he has into it even if it is cleaning floors or what not
