My meow meow turns 8 weeks and I'm wondering which flea medication would be best for her. Any suggestions? I would like something that could also prevent internal parasites.

Advantage only does fleas and 1 stage (I believe)

No clue on front line

The only prob with Revolution to me is the price. It is the best if you can afford it.

I use advantage that is not prescription. You can get it at Walmart pretty cheap.

You can get Advantage Multi as well (per vet prescription) that is a combo product like Revolution. I've had good success with that too, and it's a little cheaper than Revolution I think.

The vet said it wouldn't be a good idea until she's 3-4 months. He said he's seen too many bad reactions, but I want the flea (I'm only seeing one now) gone. I can't bathe her again; I like having skin. I also don't want to use too much DE. Combing with dawn water hasn't been effective either. Any thoughts?

So pick the flea off yourself or take her to to a groomer and they will bath her, just a thought.

I've tried to find groomers without success. They either Say they wont do cats, or They wont groom animals with fleas *_____* I've tried to pick it out but that flea is fast! I wind up pinching her fur before getting to the flea.

Oh sorry that you can''t find a groomer, that is stupid that they won't do animals with fleas, what I do with my dog when she gets fleas (my cats don't really get fleas) is pet her backwards until I see fleas, I don't know if your cat will let you do that but it is worth a shot, just one more idea.

I got it!!! because I just did it on the kittens outdoors just to be safe if they were too young to take the flea stuff, use oil not like car oil or anything like that, but like fish oil or vegetable oil (that's what I used) so get a big bottle of that, and a towel or wash cloth or something like that and pour a good amount on it and then rub the cat with it real good, get on the bottom of the cat, just get everywhere when you get the head be careful, and only the outside of the ears, and it should kill the fleas or if it has lice it should kill them and probably more that I'm not sure of!!! and it's good for the coat of the cat too! and if they lick it, no big deal, that's just fine, so I hope this helps, sometimes it just takes me time to think, Bye!!!!!!!

I took meowsie to banfield today. The awesome vet there gave me a one month supply of revolution just to see, after I explained my fears. Immediately, a flea up and died. I never saw one die so fast before. The vet also did a thorough check and said the fleas only seem to be around her neck. If there's no adverse effects We are going to start her on the six-month course.

I am a fan of Revolution. Yes, it's pricey but it's a combo med. I believe that it's better to give one medication than give a bunch of different medications at once. Not because of just the chemicals and what not, but the whole process of applying them.

Glad to see that you saw a flea die! The new kitten Bagel had some fleas when we got him from the rescue - After applying Revolution and flea combing everyday I haven't seen a single flea. However, both my cats will be on Revolution for at least three months.

As far as the 6 month dosing, It's been my experience that cats who are inside only don't really need to be treated every 30 days. I try and stretch it between 6-7 weeks per dose. I know other people who do this too. It's worked very well for me. It will save a little bit of money too.

I second the ADVOCATE like.  We started with revolution - it made Kato vomit (and not because he licked it) and upset his tummy (poos).  So we now use advocate - it almost does everything Revolution does, and what it doesnt do (one of the worms I think), is not of concern for indoor cats who have no contact with dogs as dogs are the carriers.  Moral of the story, watch for any reactions and if you see anything, there are other options.

Is Advantage Multi now called Advocate?

I don't believe so - they are different products, or at least they are over here in Australia.

My vet prefers using Revolution for my cats on the basis that it provides a broader scope of protection than Front Line and that he has seen very few problems using Revolution VS other products. The Vet has been in practice for nearly 50 years and his partner has 30 under his belt, so I trust them for their opinion. They will usually offer less expensive options first, unlike many of the newer animal clinics that fleece you for every nickle you can provide. I have had many cats and never had any reactions to Revolution...or any fleas either.

FWIW, this is my experience and not an endorsement for anything. If I thought that this would be causing my cats any problems, I wouldn't be using it.

Revolution is super safe, the others are less so and some are not at all. And it the most effective.
