We have 5 cats
Tiny ( male ) Tabby age 2. 9.5 pounds stays in our room with us.
Fatty Jr ( male ) Tabby age 2 ,10 pounds out in the living-room.
Angel ( female ) Tabby age 3 , 7.5 pounds out in the living-room with everyone else.
Sebastian ( female ) 1/2 Siamese 1/2 Himalayan 2 1/2 years old 6 pounds living-room with everyone else.
Taz ( male ) Tabby 3 months old. 4.5 pounds living-room & our room at times.

OK Now I will tell you our problem. We had Tiny and fatty Jr Fixed about a month ago at the local animal control for 10.00 each. We kept them away from everyone else for 48 hours. Tiny has only been in our room and not around anyone else yet. Fatty jr and the gang have been in the living room together almost a month now. 2 days ago I noticed Fatty Jr eyes were watery and some drainage. Last night I noticed Tiny eyes were doing the same thing. Only Tiny and Fatty jr are showing any signs of the eyes being infected. Does any one have an Idea of may be going on? All 5 are indoor cats and like I said tiny lives in our room with us because him and fatty Jr can not get around each other due to fighting. Fatty Jr has been with everyone else. I thought maybe they picked something up at the local clinic when they got fixed BUT if they picked what ever it was up that day then the rest of our babies should of picked it up from Fatty Jr when he got home. No one but them two are showing any signs of this. I also thought since they were brothers they could be allergic to the same thing and are having reactions from something maybe on carpet or my husbands new deodorant or cologne. We are really tight for money right now both have lost our Jobs and trying to keep our heads above water. Trying to avoid a weekend trip to vet, we love all our babies and if it comes down to that we will have to do what we need to. Just need some advice Please TY Heather .....

Welcome to TCS!  Sorry you're having problems with your kitties, but that's what's brought most of us here initially, so you're in good company.

Is the discharge clear or is it colored (yellow, green, whitish, reddish)?  If it's clear, then most likely it's either stress from the new kitty, kitties being gone, coming back and smelling differently or it could be airborne allergens.  It is possible that the two that were fixed picked up something at the clinic and brought it home.  It usually takes 10-14 days for those symptoms to show up.  Any sneezing, lethargy, or change in eating or litter box habits?

To try to clear up the weepy eyes, you could add L-Lsyine to their diet.  Most of us who give this regularly use the powdered form, but you can pick up some tablets in the supplement section of the pharmacy, Wal-Mart, or a health food store.  I would give 500mg twice a day.  Just crush the tablets between two spoons, add to wet food with a bit of water added, mix and serve.

If you notice any colored discharge, squinting, sneezing, or rubbing of the eyes then you need to get them to a vet to rule out an infection.
