They did some shuffling of clinics back in March of this year.  My favourite clinic was taken away and I was given 2 others in exchange. I was not happy about the change, but they did it anyway.

I had trouble with the new assignment because of back issues. One of the new clinics required 2 or 3 times the amount of walking with little time to sit between patients for my back to rest up a bit.  Plus running around trying to see 35 patients in an a 3 hour period.

They wouldn't change my assignment sighting that I would have to give them a letter of restrictions, which I refused to do because I don't have any restrictions. I just need to be able to sit down occasionally for about 2 minutes to give my back a brief break.  It's been that way for most of my working life because of chronic back problems, but I don't have any restrictions as to how far I can walk or how much I can do. Getting a letter of restrictions would have hindered my chances of getting any other positions in the company.  We found a work around where they gave me exam rooms closer to where I sit, so it cut down the amount of walking and made it similar to the amount of walking in the clinics I used to work on the main floor.

Anyway, today the manager asked to talk to me. Apparently 1 of the nurses is having personality issues with one of the doctors she works with; essentially they don't much like each other.  So I was asked if I would trade assignments with the girl.

The back problems in my current clinic have worked themselves out. The exam rooms being closer really helped.  But other issues that I had problems with were that he is very inflexible, he is involved in a huge number of clinical trials which means that the clinical trial nurses book their patients into my clinic so that they can see the doctor, which means I don't have much control over my own clinic. Something that really bothers me.  Bookings are made convenient for the research nurse, and my own patients take second seat to the research patients, which means that the research nurses always get out on time while I end up staying overtime because my patients are booked so late into the clinic.

Anyway, I weighed things, and I decided that I would take the change while I still had the opportunity to do so.

I know one of the doctors well and we get along great. The other I've never worked with, but apparently he is quite nice.  The only thing I'm a bit worried about is that it is medical oncology dealing with chemotherapy and I'm more of a radiation oncology nurse.  But I've been there long enough now and have gotten my feet more wet with chemotherapy experience (cycles, when to have bloodwork etc), that I feel I can manage.  Plus the manager said that she would make sure I got as much orientation as I feel I need.

So I'm quite excited!  I will get control of my clinic bookings again, and work with doctors that are open to change and make up clinics if they are needed instead of having to deal with someone who feels that there is always room for one more even when those clinics are already triple booked and patients leave because they get tired of waiting to be seen.

Yipeee!!!!!!!!!!! I'm breaking open a bottle of red wine tonight to celebrate!
