Samantha was a stray that followed my father home from a walk with his dog and tried terribly to get in his house.  One day, she finally succeeded.  She lived with him for 4 years and just this past July, he said she looked like she was really losing weight and thought she was sick so I decided to take her in.  I was never a cat person always have had dogs.  There was something about her though that changed my mind.  She was a gentle girl about 9 years old.  She got the nickname "badger" because if you held her too long, she'd try to scratch you. She wasn't looking good so we went to the vet.  He said she had a fever and was dehydrated because she had also been vomiting.  He gave her some meds and sent her home.  One week later back at the vet for more meds - no fever just vomiting after meals and couldn't hold down water.  I took her for a second opinion.  The doctor gave her a cortisone shot, fluids and said really hard to say what's wrong without running tests.  He did a full blood screening - everything normal except for certain levels that showed the dehydration.  I tried a holistic dropper to relax the vomiting.  She was able to eat yesterday and hold it down.  This morning, I took her in her carrying bag to an outside gazebo.  Even though she was so sick, she enjoyed her hour outside - watching the birds and just trying to relax.  She looked very uncomfortable today - just staring and all hunched over.   I took her back to the original vet. He felt her stomach area again - she lost another pound which made it very obvious that she had some sort of mass/obstruction in the intestine area.  She only weighed 5.1 pounds! We decided it was best to put her down at this point.  At least in the end of her life, she found a family that loved her. Thank you Draco for having this website.

thank you to jcat and Cassiopia for your comforting words.  She did have a nice life in the end with some people who cared for and about her.  I think she knew she was loved.  The day before she died, she came over to me slowly and rubbed her head against my leg as if to say thank you.  That was one sweet cat.
