My husband and I have adopted this stray cat in our neighborhood and she happens to be pregnant.. Like almost about to burst. You can see and feel the kittens when you pet and feel her tummy. I am new to this and never seen or experianced an animal birthing before. My cat has burped twice today and has been giving our apartment some really stinky gas. She is totally at peace here now that we have taken her in. Before we did, dogs chased her constantly and no one was really feading her much. We leave a small food bowl out for her and she eats like crazy (Meow mix), and she goes through water like crazy! Today however, shes eating and drinking fine, but the burping and gas has came up and all she does is sleep 24/7. The kittens are inside her moving around like crazy. She will randomly wake up, inhale like a huge sigh, then falls back to sleep. I also dont see much change in her cleaning herself... Is there something possibly wrong? ps. we also dont know when she got pregnant.

I guess she has about one week left.  Got in "circumstances" about 55-60 days ago.

The stinking gases are surely because of worms. If you havent dewormed, she has surely worms, fleas, mites...

Best if you consult your vet for advice of deparasiting.  There are preparates who may be used for pregs, while others are big NoNo.  I dont either know which preparates you do have at your place.

Good you began with small portions, as she surely often went hungry.  Increase them with time, be sure she gets good quality food, think kitten food, or even better, wet canned food.

Full fat unflavored unsweetened youghurt is good, will some against gases, and give her extra calcium.

If you find such one with bifidus and acidofidus bacterias in, you do have a natural probiotic.   :)

Here is some links,  read on, watch youtube films, and ask, ask ask and report.

These links I did stole shamelessly from my collegues posts.

Here is a good link about cat birth  that  I would recommend you read in advance.   "When to Wait and When to Worry"  http://www.icatcare.org/advice-centre/cat-care/cat-birth-–-when-wait-and-when-worry

She doesn't have any flees or ticks. We haven't seen any and her coat is silky smooth. She's a really clean cat. Update on the cat: Shes getting a bit startled easily and shes very much awake. she wont let me pet her tummy as much. She keeps looking under the air mattress (air mattress because we had roommates, but they moved out this morning due to getting their orders last week (#airforcewife)) .. she scratched my hand up pretty good too. She was searching for a nesting spot i think. I opened my nightstand drawer and she jumped in and even go into the very back part of it! It was a pretty rough way of getting in there though. It was a tight space she had to squeeze through. I cant feel the babies moving as much, but I've read that's normal? She's been producing very tiny amounts of milk on and off since about Wednesday night. She has some very raspy and short meows but she meows a lot at night when she's in the room with me..

Oh, so it may be even shorter than a week.

If you dont want her in the nightstand drawer, you should prepare her a nest.

She will probably not use it immediately, but she will want to know there is one waiting, just take and use when the time comes.

Best to use fleece or flannel there, at least, when the kittens began to crawl.  Most people use old towels, but kittens can fasten with their nails in them, so fleece or flannel is safer.

You can have old nespapers in the bottom, so it wont be so much soil if there are lotsa of fluids (which happens at delivery!)

You will change the bedding several times a week.  Some change every day.

Good luck!

Thank you! She has a nesting spot in our closet. We have a box set up there for her, and we keep food and water in there just in case. She knows it's there  she went to check it out about 4 times last night then settled down and went to bed next to me. She's sleeping right now, and purring loudly as she does so. Haha
