My little orange tabby Garfield has an ulcer on his eye. He's got an ointment that I have to put on it three time a day. However he seems to have developed the interesting routine that when I get him to put on his ointment, he struggles, and tries to escape. Eventually though once he calms down I can get it on him. The hilarious part comes after I'm done cuddling him and telling him what a good boy he is.

The little goofball shakes his head, glares at me and makes a run for the food bowl! Even if he had just finished eating and went to lay down he runs and stuffs his face. Then he runs back to me purrs and curls in my lap. I just find this to be the funniest thing. =)

I'm so sorry Garfield has an ulcer on his eye and hope it heals soon. Mouse gets eye problems due to herpes virus and before the vet knew what was causing his runny eyes he prescribed drops which Mouse totally hated - he's been brilliant with all other medication he's had!  I guess it's just like us humans - we usually hate getting stuff in our eyes too.....

It's so cute that he runs off for his feed then comes back for cuddles:)   He must trust you so much that he does that!
Have you ever given him a food reward after giving him something like his eye ointment?  I've had to give Mouse so many things over the past 2 years and usually give him a very quick stroke and kiss then offer him one of his favourite treats while he's still with me - he'll then either take it from my hand or look at me and wait for me to throw it across the room for him to chase after.  I've tried to train him to know that if I do something not nice to him he gets a reward afterwards.  For Mouse I think it's the treat he wants rather than the cuddle but there we go:(   He will slink around my legs afterwards but I suspect that's him trying to get another treat out of me.

Usually when he does something good he actually gets kisses. Him and his one brother are the only ones in my feline family who loves kisses so I don't know where the food thing comes into play.

I've been his favorite human since his first vet visit =D and I think he knows that I'm helping him so he's coming back to thank me. It's super sweet.

You're probably right about the eye thing, most eyes are really sensitive no matter the animal. I'm sorry to hear bout Mouse having the herpes virus. At least it's correctly diagnosed now though. And I'm sure he loves you as much as the treat it's just the treat tastes better

Hi fyreflair.  It's such a relief when you feel a cat understands why when you sometimes have to do not so nice things with them.  He does sounds super sweet - have you posted any pictures of him anywhere or set up a cat page? (there are quite a few cats called Garfield on the site coz it's a cute name).

Actually MServant I don't think I have posted any pics of him. And you're right it is a huge relief when they know that you're only trying to help them.

This is my little Garfield. Don't mind the squinting of his right eye.

Aw, he's sweet, how old is he?  The little squint gives him a really cheeky look.
How's the eye doing? I hope you don't have TOO much longer to go with the ointment routine and it's getting better.

He's a complete sweetheart! And he's a few days over being four months =). Cheeky does look pretty good on him huh
. It's doing a lot better, still got a ways to go but I'm starting to see his actual eye rather than the ulcer. I plan on sticking with the ointment until the ointment is completely gone and for a small tube that's gonna be a while, but he keeps his eye wide open now rather than squinting so I'm happy.

He's so little!  Mouse used to put on a cheeky face like that with his eyes all screwed up - usually while chewing something!
Look forward to seeing him all better and only squinting when he's intent on causing trouble.
Long may he be intent on trouble and then stuff his face before coming for cuddles. :)
