Hi all! I just discovered TCS today and I am beyond impressed by the wealth of knowledge on this site. I'm hoping you all might be able to help me with my almost four year old cat named Fox:
Yes, there he is in all his glory...
I think he has developed some strange habits because I've moved around so much. Instead of becoming attached to one territory or a few people, I think he has really only attached to me. He follows me around the house, is very talkative with me, and waits for me at the door when I leave. I used to think it was sweet until I understood how anxious he really was. When I left the house, even just for a few hours, I would come home to blood stained sheets and furniture. I quickly discovered that Fox was actually licking his paws until they bled while I was away. At first, the vet thought the licking was due to allergies. After a year of switching litters, brands of food, and laundry detergents, I determined the licking must be anxiety related.
Since I've been living with my boyfriend, Fox has become more friendly with other people (which is a vast improvement from scurrying under the bed when the door bell rang). He seems happier with two people around and has not excessively licked his paws for six or seven months. He does, however, lick them when I go away on business. Has anyone had experience with a cat who obsessively licked his paws when he was anxious?
Fox also has a few other hang-ups, but I suppose those can wait for other posts Glad to be here at TCS and thanks in advance for any help you can offer!
