Ok. Since there was some misunderstanding when I tried to post this idea the first time I'm going to try again....

*cough* *cough*

(Best Jerry Sinfeld impression)

You ever notcied that when you see a new litter of kittens there is usually an orange one? Where did it come from? Its mother isn't orange.... its father isn't orange..... yet there is it. Where did it come from? Why orange? Why isn't there always a black one, or all white one....why the orange tabby?

Ok. I hope that made my first post a little more clearer.

Ok, now that's funny.

I must admit, I didn't get it the first time. Probably because it was a funny conversation, but didn't translate to a monologue. But this, is seriously funny.

In the future, please start off with something like "Wha-ats...the deal?" (if you're not laughing, don't worry, no one gets my humor either)

That is cute but I did three rescues this summer and these were the kittens:

Litter one
White
White

litter two

deluted tortie

Litter three
Black

Hubby and I LOVEEEE orange tabbies, but all of kitten season with all the cats we rescued we never came across one.

Well Lil is a tortie, we have no clue what her boyfriend looked like, but her litter was:

1 orange tabby
1 buff tabby
1 grey polydactyl (ok, what's up with that?!)

1 brown tabby
1 silver tabby
1 dilute tortie

2 kittens didn't make it
They were a brown tabby and a tortie.

But yup, an orange one sneaked in there!

You are living in the wrong part of the country. My neck of the woods is swarming with red tabbies. I'm owned by 5 (Stumpy, Bob, Pinky, Ruby and Scarlett), and have adopted out quite a few others from the feral colony. 2 of the fosters (Spanky and Little Oscar) are red or red/white tabbies. We got the red gene here, yes we do!

I love red tabbies (and grey kitties, and black kitties, and tuxedo kitties, and brown tabbies and silver tabbies, and tri-colors, and......)

Thanks for speaking very plainly for us creepyowl!! LOL

Orange Tabbys are the best. Maybe in different areas there are not so many. Em was one of 2 and a litter my friend's cat had there were 2. When I was looking to get a kitten in the paper most of the ads for kittens had mention of at least one orange one.

Glad everyone understand what I was trying to say in my first post

Orange Tabbies are always so friendly and are great. My orange tabby, Majik, is a riot with his personality and energy.

Here is a little info on the orange coloration.
The Red gene (O) is carried on the X chromosome; for this reason it is sex-linked. Males normally only have one X chromosome and so if a male carries the Red gene at all, he will be Red. Females have two X chromosomes; if both X chromosomes carry the Red gene, then the cat will be Red.

So you can have an orange kitten even if neither of the parents is orange because the mother kitty may only have one X chromosome that carries the Red gene and therefore won't be red. But if she passes that one X chromosone onto her son, he will be red. It doesn't matter what color the father is.

Movin' on up!
My red tabby and white Opie is very dignified. He will play with Rowdy, in self-defense. Dogs are beyond the pale and are regarded with disgust and contempt.

At certain times, of the day, he wants some lap time and he always tells Bill about his day. Bedtime is "Mommy time". He snuggles up with me and gets his ear scratches and chin rubs. If I'm home, to watch "Jeopardy", Opie parks himself on my chest, for the duration.

If Rowdy gets to be too much, he hauls off and smacks her, but good. It is hilarious to see Opie, running on three legs, whacking Rowdy with the fourth one, hissing and spitting all the way through the house.
