I thought I was doing a good thing feeding my Jasmine Now kitten food. Yet when I was at the vet and the lady asked what I as feeding her.. The look she gave me when I said I was feeding her now was like I was feeding my girl poison.. Am I feeding her the wrong type of food?

Is it a grain free food?  I'm not familiar with it, but if your vet pushes something like Science Diet, then it's no surprise she gave you the look she did.

Yeah it's a grain free. I was told it was one of the better brands, so I thought I was doing good

In a lot of ways it is much better than some of the other brands of dry. It has real meat as a first ingredient, no rendered meats and no corn, wheat gluten or other grains. I don't know why they put in so many fruits and veggies though...

Does she get wet food too? That is healthier for cats. It has more of the meat, protein and moisture that cats need.

She is adorable in your avatar picture
. How old is she?

I thought NOW was one of the better foods, as well, comparatively speaking to "cheaper" brands, of course. It's not always readily available and is expensive. It's high in carbs, and I would have liked to see it higher in protein, especially for a kitten food. Maybe your vet looked at you like that because she never heard of it.

Since it seems you are willing to pay more for a better food, there's also Go! Fit + Free Grain Free Chicken, Turkey + Duck for all life stages (http://www.petcurean.com/for-cats/go/fit-and-free-grain-free-chicken-turkey-duck). It's made by the same company, except this one is higher in protein. I'm not advocating any particular food, and you don't have to switch right away. If you do decide to switch, do it slowly by incorporating a small amount of the new food with the old, and gradually increasing.

Also, try incorporating at least 50% (or more!) of wet food into your little one's diet. She needs the moisture. Fancy Feast Classic pates, Purina One Classic pates, and Friskies pates are affordable and a good start. Don't overdo it with the fish flavors, however. The cats love 'em, but they're not good for them all the time.

My little Jasmine is going to be nine weeks on Saturday.

I was planning on switching her food in the future, I was considering putting her on the raw diet, my roommates dogs are all on raw. I will look more into the Go food, thank you for the tip. And I had no idea the wet was good for them, I know the house I got her from was feeding them wet and dry food. He had said jasmine didn't have any interest in the wet foods. I guess I'll have to stop by the pet store on grocery day

If your roommate is already raw feeding her dogs, it should be fairly easy (and hopefully cheap) to get a little extra meat for your cat. Nutritional needs for a cat are a little different than for dogs though, so if you would like some help figuring out raw feeding for your cat, please do start a thread in the Raw and Home-Cooked Cat Food forum.

Oh, and if you would like to learn more about feline nutrition written by 3 different vets, I would recommend:

Has Jasmine expressed any interest in your roommates dogs' food yet?  Or are they fed completely separate from this tiny furbaby?   I would think there is no reason not to start introducing her to raw now, so she understands at an early age what it is
.  Just be sure it's nutritionally balanced,

(wait till you see the look on your Vet's face when you tell them you are thinking of feeding raw

...unless you have a very progressive Vet, which it doesn't sound like you do)

Jasmine still hasn't witnessed the dogs eating. We are still getting her used to the dogs. She likes to try to play with their back legs and try to get them to chase her, but at times they are still a little too much for her.

I'm reading from the websites you posted. Thank you so much.
