Nursing Kitten

New to site. Want to know if Smoky (10 week old female) is having trouble. Eats good (loves canned food). Doesn't need toys (plays with tail, large paper wads, large thick rubber bands, etc). Sleeps on pillow next to me at night, back of couch or me when watching tv. Her problem? At night she acts like shes nursing the blanket on the bed, she makes the sucking noise and leaves a little wet spot from flicking her tongue. She only does this at night and it doesn't last long. Should I discourage her? Sometimes I do but not all the time.

I think your kitty is definitely 'nursing'. It is comforting for them. My male kitty Buddy used to get in my hair a knead like he was nursing and actually salivate, so it sounds like that's what your kitty is doing.

Thanks. She likes it,I won't try to stop her. Yesterday she tried "nursing" Salem (17 ppl yrs). Salem doesn't like her anyway and put a stop to it. It was funny though. And they ate together for 1st time.

Cats or kittens that still suckle have been taken from mom to early. My cat MooShoo sucks on his own nipple at night. Yes, he's become a real contortionist. It's the kitty's version of thumb sucking. He does it because it gives him comfort. I don't stop him. I don't think it does any harm and it does make them feel better.

I can only imagine MooShoo. Before Smoky found the blanket she tried a mole on my neck, I did stop that before she started!
