Ou cat NaNa, who is 6 months, is picking up the 3 week old babies and carrying them all over the house. We have been lucky enough to catch him when he does it. Why is he doing this and what can we do to prevent it?

I have a male cat that loves kittens. He would bring them home from the neighbor's litter, then take them back later. Momcat wasn't concerned, I guess she knew he wouldn't hurt them. He would lay in the box and watch over them while mom had to go eat or potty. When we had a cat that was in labor he lay in the box with her and licked her face while she was giving birth. He helped clean them and grieved right along with her when none of them survived. He has raised every kitten I have ever brought home. He would have mad a great mommy. Maybe NaNa just likes kittens. Does the mom have a problem with him doing this?

No, we're just concerned that he might try to hurt them. He's the only cat that does that, Alucard just peeks over the box and then looks at me like "what the hell are these furry things and why are they crying?"

Adult male cats (unneutered) are known to kill other male's kittens to get the female in heat. At 6 months old, his instincts are probably not all formed, but perhaps there is something urging him to do this? I suggest separation.

I would also suggest separation if NaNa was a stray or feral. If he was brought up in a good loving home and you got him as a well-rounded kitten, you might be okay. Is he neutered?

no, but the babies are his mom's 2nd batch, so i guess you could say they're his 1/2 brothers and sisters. I feel horrible cuz I'm having to lock my baby in the potty room so the babies can wander. All the other cats just look at them and walk off.

Yes, she was supposed to be fixed last time, but my fiance and his mother kept letting her out, knowing she was in heat.
