Hey, everyone!

OK, so my little guy, Beetle, has had the scoots since Saturday. On Saturday, his poop was watery. Sunday, the first was slightly formed, but the second was watery again. Today's first was watery again.

Last week, I had run out of wet kitten food and Bug wouldn't eat dry on its own, so I bought him a couple of those little square tubs of adult wet food.
He loved them and on Wednesday I bought him proper kitten wet food. Again, he was fine.

Then on Saturday the diarrea began.

Now, he is fine other than that. He drinks plenty, so he's not going to dehydrate. He plays and is lively as ever. He loves his food and when I tried to starve him for 1 day, he miaowed wanting food.

He pees normally and sleeps normally.

So other than the scoots, he's fine.

Anyone got any idea as to what might be the cause? Could it have been the adult food? And is there anything I can do to stop it?

Other info:

NO blood.

He is not yet registered with a vet, so is intact and unvaccinated.

He is an indoor cat.

He is slim but not skinny (I think he is about 2kg/4lbs)

A few weeks ago, he was given an o.t.c. wormer tablet that got rid of a couple of ringworms)

He will be 17 weeks on Weds.

He eats Whiskas kitten dry and Felix kitten wet.

Anything else you need to know, just ask.

Thanks all!

Rapid food changes can cause diarrhea in kittens. It could also be any of the species-inappropriate ingredients in the dry or wet food. Some kitties really have issues with grains and starches that are fillers in commercial cat foods. Cats need a wet meaty diet (think mouse). You could try a bland cooked chicken diet for a couple of days to see if that solves the diarrhea. If it does, then you can slowly add foods back in and if diarrhea starts again, you know it's something in the food. You could also add probiotics daily to help his gut health.

He may still have parasites. Most de-wormers need two applications to kill all of them also, I am not sure how effective or safe the OTC de-wormer you used is.

Thanks for the reply and advice!

I got a meat parcel today from my local butcher and there were two chicken fillets in it. I'll keep one for Beetle and boil it up and see how he goes with it.

The o.t.c. was Bob Martin "2-in-1 dewormer for cats and kittens over 12 weeks old". His first dose (tablet 1 of 2) was on the 18th of last month. The doses are to be given 3 months apart, so he's not due the second for a while.

After I bought the stuff and had given him the first tablet, I read online that people say Bob Martin are no good.

I'm currently unemployed and right now I haven't the finds to take him to the vet. I was told it is £15 for an exam, but the person wasn't sure if the initial exam when a pet is registered, is free. So I'm going to phone the vet and ask. There is a pet charity veterinary clinic across the city (P.D.S.A.) but it is too far for me to take him to. The one I have in mind, is just 5 minutes away from here.
