After a long hard night, Ryu had her kittens. Now if I have my way she won't be escaping just before her vet appointment to get spayed again, the house is sealed tight (other than the doors). This time she had a lot of trouble, mostly because she wouldn't let anything continue to go on unless I was in the room. Only two out of the five made it however. (For some reason her first born never makes it I think, not going to have a third litter to find out.) Two of them were still born and I think I know why, few days ago she got it into her head to leap from the very top of the desk (near the ceiling) and hit her stomach on the way down.

This is where I need some advice. She wants next to nothing to do with her kittens unless I'm right there in the room sitting in front of her. I have honestly no idea what's going through her kitty mind but I need to know how I can help her. For the kittens sake.

(Also have good homes for them once they're old enough so no shelters for these babies.)

She should be feeding the kittens at least every couple of hours. Keep an eye on her, if she's not feeding and cleaning them you will need to, they also need to be kept warm. See these you tube videos on how to care for newborn kittens http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXlaoLfEXjY  and  Hopefully mom is just tired and will start caring for the kittens. Good luck :)

Agree with MyBFF.  You do have also some articles at the side of this forum - I presume you see them, I do.  How to get Ryu to be better mom is another question.  I dont have clear ideas at the moment!  I think best is if you play it by ear.

Good luck!

I did go through and read the site's articles, thanks though it was a start. Every couple hours I go to where her kitten box is and she follows gets in the box and lets them feed. She's not rejecting them she just seems to want me in there or she won't go. When I leave I refill a hot water bottle I have in with them wrapped in a towel and I check on it ever so often to see how warm it still is.

It sounds like SHE wants to be the baby -- YOUR baby.     She's very dependent on you.     she may feel unsure of herself as a mom and feels like she needs your presence and reassurance.

For some cats, motherhood just isn't their "thing".   But at least she has not entirely rejected them,   and that is better for the kittens and less work for you than if you had to do everything yourself.

I guess you'll just need to  keep encouraging her to go to them every 2 or 3  hours.  spend time sitting with her as she nurses them and licks their bottoms to get them to eliminate.   If she doesn't do that you will have to help the to go.

I am glad you are doing the hot water bottles because it is so important to keep the nest warm.

It would be a good idea to weigh them daily at about the same time to make sure they're putting on at least 10 grams a day.

It does certainly seem that way. She has already had one litter and she did amazing with them. I did think that maybe she was having some anxiety because she lost three of them that first night. As long as I'm in there she feeds them and helps them go and everything. I tried bringing the nest box out by me (I have some collage work to catch up on after pulling an all nighter to help her that night) while I'm doing some work but she didn't like that very well. She started moving the two of them back to the bathroom. (I put the one she was first started to carry back in the box and followed her to where she wanted to go).

I don't have anything to weigh them right now but judging by feel they are gaining.
