My sweet baby boy Wesley passed away on Thursday after having a bad reaction to anesthesia during a routine procedure to unblock his urethra. The ansthesia stopped his heart and put him into cardiac arrest.

He had this problem in January and successfully had this procedure done to unblock him. I'm left devastated along with not understanding how this could happen. The vet confirmed no heart murmur existed. Was I too late to help him?? Or did the vet make a mistake they are not willing to fess up too?? He was only 2 years old.... Just so teribbly heart broken as i feel like I let him down [emoji]128557[/emoji][emoji]128557[/emoji][emoji]128557[/emoji][emoji]128557[/emoji]

I am very sorry this happened it is terrible to lose a beloved cat.

Some anesthetics can be problematic for cats particularly ketamine.

My sister's cat died in November because of negligence due to anaesthetic at the vet. He had an URI and the vet put him under anaesthetic to take an X-ray without our permission and he stopped breathing. Even though it is not recommended to give anaesthetic to a cat with a URI and they did it without our permission our complaint to national association came to nothing. It is really terrible but at least in Canada it is very hard to get any sort of justice when vets commit malpractice.

Your vet may have done something wrong but it will be very hard to prove and may cause more strife in your life. Sometimes freak accidents also occur and this may also be the case.

Because of what happened to my sister's cat I insist on being present for every procedure and I insist of having the name of every medication given to my pets. I research every treatment and sadly will never fully trust a vet.

You did everything you could so please do not feel guilty and I hope you find some peace soon.
