I got a kitten from my sister (her cat had a litter) last week, and all she seems to do is sleep, and she will eat one or two pieces of hard food, and will lick wet food a few times a day, but doesn't seem to be interested in food.  I have 2 other cats in the house, a torbie that is 14 months old, and a calico that is 3 years (both female, the torbie is fixed) and they are not showing much interest in her at all.

Should I be worried that she is sick:??

How old is she? Has she been weaned, meaning she was eating both dry and wet food before you got her? I would be concerned if she's not eating very much. Kittens have very low reserves and can go downhill fast. Has she been checked by a vet to ensure she's healthy and doesn't need any deworming or other treatment?

I second Vball91  questions. Important to know for a correct analyse.

Anyway, she seems to get too little, exactly as you fear.

You probably got to give her some extra, by bottle or by a dropper.  Kmr milk perhaps. Goat milk is also good at all stages of lite.   Or a mixed up slurry of wet food.

If you live in the USA so Gerber first stage, the chicken and turkey flavors, are safe and good.

Irrestisible for kittens too, they say.

Good luck!

ps.  If she goes weak, going downhill, you can try and perk her up smearing some honey or white caro syrup directly on her gum.

Be sure she has it warm.

ps 2. As your residents dont try to be friendly with her, give her a stuffed animal as friend, type a teddy bear or such.

YOU must also be extra mommy for her.  Dont let your children play with her yet, before she has landed and feels safe and at home.

She was weaned, and ate for the first day, but it has been a little hard to keep my 5 year old from her. Seems like everytime I turn around, I am having to tell this girl to put her down.  She usually hides in my bed, and sleeps with me as well.

Thank you Stefanz and VBall, I will for sure try the honey.  Like I said, she is drinking fine and peeing, but it is the lack of eating that concerns me.  She seems to have bonded with me, already purrs when I pet her.
