Today I brought a beautiful 9 week old Tabby, named Oscar home to live with me. He seems to be very good natured and playful. I had to go out for an hour so I left him in the room where he will be sleeping with fresh water, food, his bed and litter tray. He hated being alone and was meowing and crying.

I am just concerned as I have to work on Monday and he will be alone then. Does anyone have any advice on how to make this easier for him? Unfortunately its not an option to get a play mate for him.

Even when I am in the room he wants to be beside me.

I adore him already and just hate the idea of him being upset, I have someone who can come in to check on him on Tues and Wed but not Monday, I know this is something he will probably grow out of but its just quite stressful to listen to now.

Any advice will be gratefully received.

You can have  some music on.  Or even better, a TV.  There are video bands with fishes swimning like in an aquarium...

Most probable is he will quiet down and sleep when you are out. At least, with time.

Now he is surely missing his litter-mates and his biological mom.  So it cant be helped, from now on you are his new Mom.

Good luck!

Many thanks for the advice, he cried a little bit during the night, but he did eventually stop. I do feel bad for him missing his Mum but I hope he can settle in with me soon!

I would keep him in one room,  it's often easier to get used to a little part of his new territory first,   and  so he will be close to his litter box,  water dish etc.    provide an environment with somewhere cozy to  rest,   a high place he can get to to perch,    some toys he could play with on his own....     Maybe if he has a cat tree in there or something ,   "hide" a few treats here and there on  it for him to find.

and I agree it may be helpful to leave a television or radio or some calm music on for him.

Some  folks would also say Rescue Remedy if you have it.

I think there is no avoiding he will be lonely at first.  but he will soon realize that you always come back, and give him lots of attention when you do.   and he'll bond to you as his new family.
