We adopted a cat from a dairy that we are told by the vet is between 1 and 5 years old.  Lulu is a sweety, we are not sure how long she has been a stray, but she was giving meat scrape by the owner of the shop.  She was extremely gassy, bad enough that we would be opening windows to air out the room.  She has had 2 treatments for worms, checked for internal parasites (negative) and given probiotics for 5 days.  Her stool is still soft, and she is still gassy.  We are now in the habit of "butt checks" when she starts to smell because that usually means she leave a little poo drop.

I asked the vet if it could an allergy such as wheat gluten (in her canned food) he said that is highly unlikely. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what to do or what the cause could be?  She uses the litter box without issue, but its getting tiring of doing floor checks all day long.

I completely disagree with your vet, while her previous diet was not balanced she was consuming what cats as obligate carnivores should, meat, and now she is on a diet with species inappropriate ingredients like wheat. Most vets get little to no nutritional training and I think you should you to read this page by a vet who actually does know about feline nutrition (www.catinfo.org).

In my opinion you should switch to a grain free canned diet or a balanced raw diet and adding a good human probiotic. You may also want to try a novel protein like duck if she continues to have GI issues.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Since she was a stray she could still have some kind of parasite that she hasn't been treated for.  One test can come back negative and there could still be parasites.  It has to do with the life cycle of the parasite and when they are in the digestive track to be found in a fecal exam.  I know that in dogs at least whipworms are like that.  I would ask the vet to check another fecal sample.

Of course you still shouldn't be able to feel her bones but some Siamese have a much more slender build than other Siamese.

Whatever is going on, I definitely think seeking out another vet's opinion is a very good idea.  It could very well be a food issue but with his having been a stray a good check by a good vet should be done.  I can't believe the vet said it was normal for the breed.  Even setting aside the weight of the cat it's not normal for cats to have poo leaking.

Well update to Lulu.  I have changed her and Max's diet to grain free, she gets one can of wet food day and has dry food.  After two rounds of Albon at weeks a piece, her stool improved and she wasn't having leakage.  Recently she started up on the leakage again, and scooting across the rug.  I have sensitive baby wipes sitting out just for her, to do the "butt checks" (which she hates).  I have added a probotic to her food, but that is not helping a whole lot.

Did the vet check her glands? Scooting along the carpet is typical behaviour of blocked/full glands..

Yup he checked her then, and she was fine, the last time she was there, she had horrible gas too. He advised us to keep up the with baby wipes because the diarrhea would cause irratation.

I just read your other thread where now BOTH cats have the diarrhea.  Did you ever have her tested for the T Foetus?  I'll bet that's what it is, and it has to be treated with a very specific antibiotic.  Here's another thread where this kitty had diarrhea on and off for quite some time and we finally convinced  his owner to test him for T foetus.  Guess what?  That's what he had.

Wow, read that link, and it describes Lulu to a T with her symptoms.  I will be calling the vet and taking the cats back in again for testing for that specific condition.

Thank you!
