Just adopted 2 kittens at 3 months old from a shelter. I have had them about a month and a half now and I immediately only put them on dry food blue wilderness kitten formula food left out all day.  One has eaten alott more than the other growing alot faster.  But both have been having mostly loose stools, diarrhea.  Should I switch foods? Not leave it out all day? They act fine and healthy, just concerned with them not having healthy stools.  I have never had kittens, only adult senior cats before this so I am unsure what to change or do for them!

When you adopted them, did they have a Vet visit?  It's possible they have worms,  or it could be the food, but it would be surprising that BOTH of them would have a reaction to it.  If you do decide to switch food, I would do it slowly, 25% new food mixed into the old the first few days, then 50/50, then 75% new then completely new.

But may I suggest that you add some canned food to their diet?  And try to get a grain free or low carb in both the canned and kibble.  Grains are one of the main causes of irritation to cats digestive systems.  And while you're at it, you could give them some pro-biotics.  I give my cats the same ones I take, just less of them.  I just sprinkie them in their food, but I don't feed kibble, so it mixes right into their food.

In answer to your question about leaving the food out all day, free feeding doesn't usually cause diarrhea, but it DOES usually cause obesity in cats, so the one who is a lot larger may end up being fat later on.  Scheduled feeding is better.  For kittens, though, they do need several meals per day.  I would say at least 4.  Let's see...they're currently 4.5 months old?  Yes, 4 meals per day should be enough times per day, as long as they eat enough each meal.  Right now, that would basically be as much as they want (at meal time)

It's possible that they both have some sort of internal parasites causing the diarrhea, so it would be best to have them checked out by a vet. You should take some stool samples with you so they can be checked for worms, coccidia, etc..
