One of the stray kittens that I've been taking care of passed away yesterday.

Boo Chan was four months old, a long haired white kitten with black ears and tail. Her mother has been ignoring her for the past month, but she's been coming to my house to be fed twice a day and hanging out with all the other stray cats in the fields near here.

I fed her and the other kittens yesterday at 5 am. At about 6 in the evening my neighbour came to tell me there was a dead kitten in her garden and would I come and take a look. The poor woman had just moved her car to go shopping and noticed Boo curled up on the ground underneath the car. She was so upset and said, "It was dark when I came home last night. Did I hit her?" but as I had seen Boo that morning and the car hasn't been moved since I don't think that's what happened.

There's not a mark on her. No broken bones on blood, no sign that she was sick or had diarrhoea. Her eyes and mouth were closed, she looked like she had just curled up and fallen asleep. She was cold and stiff so must have died a few hours earlier. I wonder what can have happened?

It's so sad, she was just starting to trust me. I was hoping that she would start coming into the house soon so that I could take care of her properly.

Button, (her brother or sister, I don't know which) is still outside. Button seems to have made friends with three other kittens who are still being cared for by their mum. I'm going to keep feeding them and hope they all stay safe until I can coax them indoors.

Goodbye Boo Chan, we love you.

Boo Chan knew she was loved, I'm so sorry you'll never know why she died so suddenly. It doesn't change anything, but it could be a heart problem, or something no body could have helped. I'll pray for you, I know you cared so much for her that you hurt so badly now, God bless you for that. We can share your pain and loss, please know I'm thinking of you and beautiful little Boo Chan.

Thank you so much for all of your messages. I'm glad that I got the chance to see Boo Chan play and to take care of her, even if it was only for a little while.

I'm glad that Boo Chan will be remembered on this forum too.

I took her mother in to the vets to be spayed this morning. I should have done it months ago, but she was hard to catch, then pregnant, then nursing her kittens. Anyway, she'll be home tomorrow and I'm sure she'll be back to be fed, as soon as she's forgiven me. I think the best thing I can do for Boo is to take care of her mother and the other stray cats as well as I can.
