Hi!

About a month ago my friend's neighbor found four kittens in her yard with no mom. I adopted Percy who is now 9-10 weeks old. He is healthy and had his first round of injections. Two of his litter mates are still needing homes and my aunt has offered to pay all of the vet bills if I were to take in another one.

I know Percy would probably really enjoy having another cat around in the long run since I am usually at work for 9-10 hours a day and he gets bored (cries when he knows I am about to leave, breaks my heart!)

I have a few concerns about taking a new kitty in though. Percy is very clingy to me since I got him when he was so young, so I am worried he will be territorial/possessive of me. He is also a bit timid, and I don't know how he would handle a kitten who has been socializing continually with other cats while he has only been socializing with humans for the past month.

I also am concerned my apartment isn't big enough for 2 cats. My roommate is worried that the kitty will ruin her couch so Percy has access to my room, the hallway and the bathroom while we are away.

My final concern is for the poor final kitten that will still need a home and will no longer have a litter mate to play with! My friend lives in the country and her neighbor is keeping the kittens outside in a dog crate. The poor thing will really be alone if I were to adopt one more.

Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks everyone!

Percy

Wait, so you adopted Percy when he was about 6 weeks, while his littermates were left at this another place in the dog cage??

Anyway, usually it IS a good idea to have two cats than one, esp if they are pals.

Yes, my advice is you take another one.  One ex-littermate  or some other suitable kitten or cat.

Mentally it would feel best for you if you took the one left from that litter, and merciful to it too.

For Percy it prob doesnt matter much now, as long as they get friends.

Good luck!

Aww,  too bad you can't take BOTH the remaining littermates.   Or if you could take one and maybe help your friend find a home for the remaining one.

Percy is still young and  I bet it would not take long before he is  enjoying having a feline buddy / sibling  to play with again,  even though he is very attached to you.  You would of course need to make sure to give him a lot of attention during the introduction period.

I think your apartment should be fine for two cats.  Make use of vertical space -- that can help a lot.     High resting places,  a cat tree etc.

This site might give you some good tips.   http://indoorpet.osu.edu/cats/

Thanks for your advice! Percy had been kept in a dog crate as well. The neighbor didn't want the kittens in her house, not sure why. I was told when I took Percy the other kittens would be taken to their vet the following week since they runs an adoption program. Two days after I got Percy, my co-worker went on a 3 and a half week safari so I had no update on his litter mates, but had assumed they had been taken to the shelter and adopted. When my co-worker go back, she sent me the picture of the kittens still at her neighbors, still in the crate.

The neighbor did seem to take care of them, lots of food, had them litter trained, was giving a sick one its meds, lets them out in the yard to socialize and play when she is out there.

Anyway, if I take one, I am going to insist the other goes to a no kill shelter. The poor thing would really be alone outside in a crate all by itself! Or I might wait to see if one gets adopted and then take the last one left from his litter.

You could perhaps take both?  Three cats shouldnt be too difficult, lots of people has.

I adds the costs but you cant have everything.

OR  find actively some other adoption home among your connections for the last remaining.

Oh wow one appears to be a pointed cat, so very pretty! I am surprised no one wanted her I am totally obsessed with pointed cats and would have scooped her up right away. There are many people interested in pointed cats and if you do not take that one put an ad on petfinder as a siamese mix so people who are looking for pointed cats can find her. Not sure where you are located but also try to find a siamese rescue as they will often take look- a-likes. Here is a larger one in the US that maybe you could contact (http://www.siameserescue.org) or you can google siamese rescue and the name of your location.

I would take them both and try to rehome one if three cats are too much. I have a feeling the pointed kitten will be fairly easy to rehome.

Good luck and I wish I could take her!

Good idea about the Siamese rescue! I know my friend's family is obsessed with Siamese cats and i'm sure more people in area are as well! My apartment complete only allows for 2 pets sadly or I would take both.

Ok, I took the grey kitten and the woman who found them is going to keep the pointed cat which was his favorite from the litter. I have Percy and Nico at home, but Percy hates Nico. Any tips?
