When I saw this happen the first time, it didn't freak me out too much, as I had seen my mothers cat do it once or twice. My mother and I both have very, very long hair that sheds all the time. But this is not the 3rd or 4th time in the last few days he's pooped with hair hanging from it keeping it in his butt. I have to help him clean up after as he swings around in the litter box till it falls out.

I've been trying to brush my hair more, eat better, and even use a new shampoo - I've also started cleaning the floor and rug once a day, it doesn't seem to help. He finds them on my bed, on the couch, everywhere. I'm worried he'll end up getting a blockage of some kind - what should I do?

(as of right now he seems to be pooping, peeing and eating normally, so don't think there are any problems as we speak, I just don't want them to pop up in the future.)

have you considered a multivitamin?(for you) It may help with you hair loss, so that kitty doesn't ingest it.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
I have really long hair, and this has definitely happened with some of my cats. But it's not something that happens regularly or frequently. We keep the place pretty well vacuumed, and that seems to take care of it for the most part. :dk:

What about wearing your hair braided or in a pony tail when at home? Or just with a handkerchief, hippie-style if you don't wan the broken hairs from the pony tail or bumps from the braid? That can be quickly pulled off before going out or answering the door or whatever, and should help prevent your "shedding." :lol3:

Thank you for the advice - I normally put my hair in a pony tail, but find that due to it's tightness, I end up loosing more hair! I get a clump of it falling out whenever I let my hair down. I'm going to try and get a better conditioner or something, along with brushing my hair out more. It's good to know I'm not the only one with this problem! I looked through his litter box again, and there seems to be only one hair in one of his poops (there being three different poops in the box) so he's not eating them as often as I thought, though it has happened 4 times in the last week or so. Did any of your cats end up having any problems? Is there any natural hairball treatment I could give him to help him pass the hair?

I just started taking One a day women's Multivitamin about a week ago when I noticed him eating hair - so I hope it helps. Going to start using healthy products to in hopes to cut down on the shedding. I think it runs in my family though - my mother sheds just as much as I do! :(

I take the one a day, and it helps....also Garnier Fructis sleek and shine serum when I get out of the shower helps keep my hair healthy so that I lose less. Sometimes it's good to take a fine-toothed comb, and just get out the loose hair, so that I have control over when I shed

I have a dog that loves to eat hair, his poop would hang and we'd also have to help remove it. With our dog the only way to discourage it is to spray him which I hate doing but he's deaf so saying anything to him is useless. He is one that likes to lick the carpet or shoes or anything really lol.

I think you are doing all that you can as far as keeping it from falling out much. Hair grows in cycles and falls out all of the time, sometimes more hairs fall out. Sometimes it seems like I'm finding very little in my brush and other times it comes out left and right. It's frustrating because I can't watch the dog 24/7 and he does it behind my back.

I don't spray him in his face, it's always a little spritz on his side just so he knows we are watching him, usually he stops right away.

If you leave a bag that has garbage or food in it laying anywhere he can reach he will be in it as soon as you leave the room. Now that he is deaf in his old age he doesn't notice us reenter the room sometimes and boy does it scare him when he turns to see us just watching him lol.

Good luck with your hair eater, it seems to be a never ending battle.
