That is a very clever idea. I think Pandy would like it, but would probably destroy it quite soon. She is very strong (she used to dig holes in the walls).

If you think she would like it and want durable, you can get one made from wood for around $50(last time I looked).  We made our own from a cardboard box, and it was fine - because it's just more entertainment for them to rip and chew cardboard!
O.O dig holes? Wow, funny cat :)

I made one also from a cartboard box (not too strong) (I can make a picsture if you'd like), but it holds even with Zebu jumping on an off it. Also he likes to chew on it ocasionally, so that's extra fun.

Combined with a jingle ball he always plays with it until he sets the ball free :)

I agree with the cardboard boxes, whether it's just any old cardboard box, or one with holes cut in. Few things more likely to get the cat hiding and hunting instincts going, esp if you sometimes put (food) rewards in there or throw the odd bit of dry food in to get them going.

The most enduring toy my boy has played with is the Catis Sesnses play circuit.   http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/cats/cat_toys/catit_design_senses/133881

It's pretty much the only toy I've bought that he'll play with on his own.He likes it best set up as a circle as the ball flies round faster so he can bat it round on his own better that way.

I'm waiting for the toys to arrive from Amazon.com that some of you here have recommended. I bought Pandy one of these today from the supermarket:

She was enchanted for about ten minutes, but I am guessing that is going to be it. Will probably return it for a refund.

The cats I watch prefers obstacles than actual toys. I always thought the more expensive toys would get their attention but it is usually the less expensive ones.

I'm with you on that! Boxes and large paper bags are an ever present feature in this home.....

I just bought my cat the Bergman Star Chaser tonight because he needs something new to scratch and it looks fun.  I'll let you know if he likes it!  I got it for $20 at Petco, but I think Amazon has it much cheaper.  It was definitely an impulse buy.

The Star Chaser is a giant hit! I threw out his old cardboard scratcher and sprinkled some catnip on the Star Chaser; he instantly went nuts scratching and playing with the ball.

Definitely worth the money! Here's a link for anyone interested: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009YWHXA/?tag=&tag=thecatsite

Cat playing with it!

Edit: I tried to imbed a video but I'm not sure it worked.

The Bowtie Chaser (from the same manufacturer as the Cat Charmer) is also a great toy, at least in my experience. My cat chases it around voluntarily, and works herself in to quite a frenzy doing so. She will also chase it almost every time I toss it.

You could try one of those "glitter pom pom" toys, which are basically soft balls with glitter strands sticking out. Ping pong balls, I've heard, can also make effective cat toys, though my cat didn't take to them.

Catnip Cyclone, Catnip Hurricane, and Turbo Scratcher are toys that have balls that your cat can bat around. The first two hold catnip in the center to attract cats, while the last one has a cardboard scratcher in the center that serves as a flat scratching surface.

I tried one of the balls you put catnip in to. My boy usually loves fresh catnip toys and plays with pretty much anything that moves but he couldn't be persuaded to go near this for some reason.

I forgot to mention that the Catnip Cyclone/Hurricane are those circular track-type toys in which the ball moves around the track. There's a hole in the center of the track in which you put catnip; the catnip doesn't go into the ball.

Ah, must be like the Star Chaser that there's a link to in the post before your one. Looks a lots like the  circuit Mouse likes but with the added catnip!

I have put a Star Chaser in my Amazon wish list and I think Pandy will enjoy this toy. Thanks again to everyone for all the suggestions.

Pandy has practically zero interest in the Star Chaser. I think it is a terrific toy and I really wish I had known of it when she was a kitten. She would have loved it then. I will probably donate this to a cat shelter that I donate to locally.

"Cat Crazies" (  hard plastic toys -- sort of like a commercial version of milk rings,  but they are shaped in a way that they bounce or spin in a fun way)
,
and they LOVE  the catnip filled banana and carrot .
Excellent suggestions. Of all the new toys I bought Pandy, the carrot is her favorite. It is just the right size for her to grasp with her paws, chew it to pieces, and bunny kick it to death. The banana is a close second.

Cat Crazies are also excellent. As mentioned above, all great toys, but not that interesting for her. I think she has almost outgrown her liking for playthings.

Mylar balls are also a big hit.
Of all her new toys, this was the one she disliked most. I thought they were adorable, but I think they are more suited to a kitten. Pandy had zero interest in them.

Thanks to everyone for all your suggestions. :)
