Anyone ever play with something so "low tech" as a ball & jacks? I mean a little ball you bounce once & try to see how many of those spikey colored metal jacks you could pick up while the ball was off the ground?

I played jacks & ball too. I also loved my chalk.,Hola Hoop and those big glass balls on a string . I called them knockers which I got them taken away in school. Hey,I don't remember the teacher giving them back either.

I had the same thing- only we called them "click clackers"... mine was 2 lilac colored solid acrylic balls on a white cord & me & my friends would walk down our street whacking them together up 'n down... made such a loud racket, too! Only if one hit your elbow, ouch! But heck, in those days they didn't think much about kids safety.

Did you ever have any of those lightweight colorful air filled play balls that got punctured so easy & lost air as soon as the temperature dropped?

My favorie thing as a child was my doll house. I eventually gave it to a little girl I baby-sat for when I was around 14 or 15.

We were poor and so the three of us didn't have many toys. One of our favorite things to do was cut paper dolls from the old Sears catalogue. We would then find clothes in the catalogue that would fit them and we would make each paper doll a wardrobe of clothes Grandmother would give us empty cardboard boxes and we would make houses for our paper dolls. We would cut paper strips to divide the house into rooms and leave spaces for doors. Then we would furnish each box as a room with furniture from the catalogue. We would put the boxes together and cut doorways from one room to the other. We spent hours doing this and it brings back wonderful memories. We did have some puzzles and we enjoyed putting them together.

Wow that paper doll stuff sounds incredibly creative! We had "color forms" vinyl cut out characters from a TV show theme you could arrange on a pre fabricated scene background, & it kept me busy for quite a few hours.

Did you like "playing house" under a blanket stretched between chairs or bed?
