Our three cats {Bazinga, Sam, and Lizzie} are currently being fed Purina Cat Chow Naturals.  Bazinga & Sam get a small 'treat' (1/2 to 1 tablespoon) nightly of Wellness canned food, turkey formula.  Lizzie won't touch canned food.

Bazinga has had issues with vomiting up her dry food on and off.  After trips to the vet, which included very in-depth conversations about all 3 felines, our vet and I have reached the conclusion that her vomiting is food-related.  Research leads me to believe it is because of the corn products used as filler in most cat food brands.

Lizzie and Bazinga are domestic shorthairs, Sam is a Maine Coon - and a little overweight.  What ever I decide to switch them to will obviously be fed to all three.  BTW, feeding raw is not an option at this time.

I've been looking around locally to see what is available.  Live in northwest Indiana, but the nearest "big box pet store" is at least a 45 minute drive away one-way.  So Petsmart, Petco, etc. are not an option.  Neither is ordering online.  Wal-mart, Target, Kmart, Meijer...they all carry the brands that I'm not wanting to go with, the cheap stuff with the corn filler.  There is a Pet Supplies Plus the next town over, but (a) I rarely go there and (b) it's a small store and their selection leaves much to be desired.

Anyway, I digress.  After a bit of digging around on the interwebs, I was looking at TSC's (Tractor Supply Company) website and they carry some brands of cat food that are corn free.  Some of them are even decently priced.

These are the brands I'm looking at (prices are for our local TSC location):

{1} Taste Of The Wild, Rocky Mountain Feline Formula $24.99 for a 15 pound bag

{2} BLUE Wilderness Adult Cat Food, Turkey & Chicken Recipe $19.99 for a 6 pound bag

{3} BLUE Indoor Health Cat Food, Chicken & Brown Rice $21.99 for a 7 pound bag

{4} 4health Indoor Adult Cat Formula $21.99 for an 18 pound bag

{5} 4health All Life Stages Cat Formula $21.99 for an 18 pound bag

{6} Wellness Complete Health $19.99 for a 5 pound bag

Of all the brands, only 4health is the only one I had never heard of before.

I've read the reviews on the TSC site for them all, as well as a few other places.  Overall, there isn't really anything that is making me automatically rule out any of them.  So I'm having to look at it from the "you get what you pay for" angle.  Twenty dollars for a 5 pound bag of food is kind of out of my budget with 3 cats, considering they go through a 13 pound bag of the PCCN in about 5 weeks.

Really like the Wellness brand, but again, $35 for a 12 pound bag of dry very pricey (elsewhere than TSC).  So, I'm kind of leaning towards Taste Of The Wild and the 4health brands.

The new diet doesn't have to necessarily be grain-free, just corn-free.

BTW, my vet is fully encouraging this, and tells me that any of these brands would be fine.

I'm simply looking for any feedback from other cat owners as to their experiences with them.  Thanks! :-)

I, too, have "don't bring me that wet junk" dry food fanatics.  I finally switched everyone to Blue Wilderness Weight Control (gold bag).

I tried Wellness but no one touched it.  The 4 Health is good, too, but they were eating a little too much and gained weight.

The Wilderness seems to be a good compromise, although it is a little pricey.  I get the 11-pound bag for around $37 at PetSmart.  All six of my cats eat it and the two fatties have lost some weight.

Hi there,

I too had a dry food fed cat who had a vomiting problem and the best thing I did for him was switch him to an all wet grain free food. Before he hated wet but I put toppers on it like freeze dried chicken and kibble and I was able to transition him, which I never thought I could do due to the level of his pickiness and aversion to wet food. He does really well on the nature's variety novel proteins- lamb and duck.  In my personal opinion if you would like to learn a little more about feline nutrition written by a great vet I would take a look at (www.catinfo.org).

For dry food out of all of the ones above I think the TOTW seems to be the best but I really recommend the Nature's Variety Limited Ingredient  dry food for cats with stomach issues (http://www.naturesvariety.com/Instinct/cat/kibble/LIDturkey). This is what I used to transition my cat to wet and he still sometimes gets some as a treat or a topper on wet and it does not upset his sensitive stomach.
