Changing symptoms

I posted before in relation to my cats condition, but her symptoms keep changing and she isn't getting better. It started a couple of months ago. We noticed her stumbling around, she could barely walk let alone jump into windows or even onto the bed. We immediately took her to a vet that prescribed metacam. The vet gave me no information on how dangerous the metacam could be, told me to give it to her everyday for a week and keep her updated. Her stumbling seemed to ease up, but she was also not herself at all. The vet I had used is not our normal vet but the only vet who happened to be in on the Saturday we took her in. She was so bad that day I had decided I couldn't make it thru the weekend to see our actual vet.

So I took her to our vet. She said no more metacam, even tho we had already stopped giving to her ourselves after a few days bc of the research we had done. She prescribed her generic motion sickness mess thinking it may be vertigo. That helped just a tad for a week or so but then she got worse. She then prescribed her predesterone, which she is still currently taking, and is still at a loss as to what's wrong with her.

It's been a couple of months and her symptoms seem to be changing. At first she was stumbling, now she's stumbling less but sneezing and stuffed up like crazy. You can hear her breathing she's so congested. She can't seem to find her way to the litter box either. That began about a month ago. She goes in the spare room where the boxes are, but not in it. We even got her the lowest container we could find hoping that would help but it hasn't. We have had to tarp off the carpet in our spare room to protect the carpet, pulled the litter box in the middle of the room and she's still missing it. She's eating and drinking, not losing weight and starting to move around a little bit better. She's jumping on our laps and in bed again, and you can drop her to the ground from waist height and she won't just tumble to the ground anymore, she's definitely getting her balance back. A couple of months ago if she tried jumping down from anywhere she would basically crash into a heap. But like I said her breathing seems affected now and the litter box is still an issue.

The vet kept her for a full day, and used a scope but said she doesn't have one small enough to see anything significant. She thought maybe she was missing an ear drum, but she's not. The closest vet with a scope is 3 hours away (we live in a very small town). She thinks perhaps its polyps, possibly growing but not growing outward. She said maybe they are pushing on her optical nerves, nasal cavity and possibly her ear drums. These are guesses however. I'm at a loss bc we love this little girl so much but no one seems to know whats going on. Anyone ever heard of such a thing? Any suggestions would be very very helpful.

I am really sorry your cat is going through so many health problems. The only thing I can think of is that this may be something neurological- has the vet ruled that out? The cold symptoms might be unrelated and she could have just picked up an URI possibly at the vet.

She ruled out a brain tumor only. When she was dizzy and stumbling she was walking in circles, but going both ways. The vet said that indicated she did not have a tumor. Other than that we don't know. Se said at this point the polyps would normally make their way out of the ear canal but she saw nothing when she took her for the day. Poor things been poked and prodded to death over the last few months I feel awful but really do want to help her. I have a friend that's family member is a large animal vet, who said we may be able to get her a cheap or free MRI which we may need to do. She isn't suffering, doesn't seem to be. Still lovey and purring, just off. I feel terrible but don't really know what to do. We've put over $1000 into vet visits and are still basically at square one.

You are very lucky you have a friend that can get you a cheap or free MRI because at least where I am they run into the thousands. I would advise to try the MRI and see what it shows. I think it should at least be able to rule some things out.

I forgot to ask has blood work shown anything?

Sounds like the ear polyps may be causing her to have vertigo and she's lost her balance.  I would get a second opinion for sure about that.  Seems like the polyps would need to be surgically removed or treated.

The vet was thinking polyps but wasn't sure. Her blood work was 100% normal, X-rays normal too. They scoped her and found nothing but the vet said her scope wasn't small enough to really get in there. Her balance is basically normal now but her breathing isn't. Even as I sit here and type this with her sleeping next to me I can hear every breath. Ugh.
