Hi everyone!

I keep coming across the site while doing various google searches so I thought I should finally join. I have a zoo of animals in my home. We have four dogs, six cats, five rats, one angora rabbit and a fish. It sounds like a little much, but I have a grown son with Autism who lives at home and does a lot of the work of taking care of them, and a grade school aged daughter who I home school who also is a great helper. We make good use of vertical space for the kitties and hiding spaces and are working on an outdoor enclosure accessible from a window cat door.

I volunteer with our local animal shelter as a dog walker, cat socializer, foster parent, transport driver and whatever else is necessary! My oldest son works for the shelter on the cat care team too. We are an all around animal loving family!

The cats are:

Smudge - 13 year old Tuxedo, male, Craigslist 'rescue'

Arthur - 6 year old Brown Tabby, male, feral kitten rescue

Pixel - 5 year old Brown Tabby, female, feral kitten rescue, possible half sister to Arthur

The Kitten - 4 year old white/tabby, female, feral kitten rescue

Angel, 3ish tortie, female, shelter rescue

Taboo, 3ish, black, male, shelter rescue

They are all well integrated and happy campers. The biggest disagreement is who gets to steal my office chair when I'm not in it! Currently it usually shared by Taboo and Arthur.

I have 11 fosters at the moment also - two Mamas and 9 assorted kittens. Three mixed orphans are ready for adoption, 4 with one mama need about 3 more weeks, 2 with the other mama are special cases. They have congenital pectus excavatum and I'm not sure what their long term outlook will be. The little calico I used for an avatar pic is one of them. They will probably stick around for a lot of TLC for as long as it takes! At 7 weeks old one is just over and one just shy of 1 lb. Our shelter vet has little to no experience with the condition so we play it by ear.

So that's us! Nice to meet you all and I look forward to hanging out and sharing!

Welcome to TCS.
When you said zoo, you weren't kidding. This is a great place for questions on any cat care. Please post some pictures of your menagerie in the Fur Pictures board. We also have a board for non-cat type pets.

Hello Tracy and welcome! I'm a newbie as well, having joined less than 24 hrs ago. Is 8/26 your birth date?

I envy your zoo:-) If I didn't live in such a small apartment, I'd want a "zoo" myself! At least growing up, I had a lot of animals, as well as two uncles with (dairy) farms in Wisconsin with many animals as well. I love cows, too. The Holsteins are so darn cute!

What color is your rabbit? When I was around 20 yrs old, I bought a British Angora rabbit. I named her Britannia and she was all white with the longest, silkiest hair.

I am sorry to hear about your son, but I bet he enjoys taking care of the animals, right? I applaud you for home schooling your daughter. If one is able to do it, I truly believe it is a lot more beneficial for the children.

It sounds like you have a great family, which of course, includes the zoo!

Take care. [/PURPLE]

Our rabbit is a black tipped torte - she's a shelter rescue also. I'm a knitter and spinner so I look forward to getting her coat healthier and spinning up some angora yarn to play with!
