Hey friends,
Its been only one month with my 3 year old female cat Mishi, I recently started noticing that she is becoming more affectionate. She rubs her chin with almost every object with hard edges. She keeps on meowing continuously like she has never done before. After searching these symptoms on the internet I came to know that she is in heat. I asked her previous owner and discovered that she has not been neutered/spayed. But whenever she used to get heat in the past they would take her to the vet & get her vaccinated. Which I'm not sure what the vaccination was about as I'm new in cat-keeping.

So my questions are, should I get her neutered while she is in heat? If not, how long should I wait?
Secondly, if I should wait, then can I take her to the vet & get her vaccinated so that she can calm down? As she looks very disturbed and doesn't sits properly.

I'm worried. I need urgent replies. I live in Saudi Arabia, we don't have much experienced people here to discuss all this.

I'm not sure about the timing of getting her spayed, but I once lived with a cat who seemed to constantly be in heat (roommate to lazy to get her spayed). While it was annoying, she didn't seem to suffer.

Can you take her to a vet for a consultation to schedule a spay? I'm sure the vet can tell you if it's okay to do now or if you need to schedule later.

Being in heat won't matter. But I would definitely get it done before she finds a boyfriend.

Firstly vaccination will not stop a cat from being in heat and it is really dangerous to over vaccinate a cat like that.

You for sure should get her spayed as it is healthier for her and will stop her from this type of behaviour. It is actually a danger for the cat to keep having heat cycles as she gets older so it does make the cat suffer. She will also certainly get pregnant if she ever gets out and is more likely to try to escape while in heat.

Now for the question about getting her spayed while she is in heat. Many vets do spay without a problem while a cat is in heat, but there is some speculation that it is more dangerous. Personally I would have a discussion with the vet and try to get a few opinions. I would also see about contacting the Saudi Humane society which is actually located in Riyadh (https://www.facebook.com/SaudiHumaneSociety/info) and (http://saudihumane.org/contact-us/). I bet they would have information on a good vet who will spay your cat as they are advocates for spaying and neutering animals in Saudi Arabia.
