When I was a young girl, we had 3 siamese cats.  They are somehow in every memory of my childhood, all the way up to when I started my own family. Not long after I left home, Farrah passed away in her 20th year.  Her daughter, Princess, died not long after, at the age of 18.

In time, my mother got a new cat.  She was born about the same time as my daughter.  Her name was Bridgette.  When we would visit, my little girl would hold and pet Bridgette, just as I had with my kitties.  She loved her.

In Bridgette's 8th year, my parents had to move and could not take her with, so we brought her to be part of our family full time.

By then I had 2 more children, and they loved her.  Like I loved my kitties.

3 more babies came along.  Bridgette was there from the moment their little memories began, and they loved her, too.

My youngest son, who is now only 2, learned to say her name not too long ago.  Along with all our family's names......and he loved her.

After so many, many years, she is gone.  We put her to rest yesterday.  She was ill.  She was suffering.  We loved her too much to let it continue.  We loved her so much.

We have more cats.  We love them too....but Bridgette was an original.  She was a reminder to me of my childhood cats and how I loved them so.  She was a remnant from that moment in time and now that it has passed I feel empty.  This season is over.

But when seasons end, new ones start.  My oldest daughter is now 17.  She will begin her life on her own sooner than Id like....and maybe, when the time comes,  we will get her a friend....a friend to start her new life with, who will be there for the birth of her babies, guarding over all the new additions, seeing them through tears and triumphs, highs and lows, the loud moments and the very, very quiet moments when only an impartial, silent, and humble companion will do.......

I wonder if my daughter will remember Bridgette as fondly as I remember Farrah.

I will ALWAYS remember Bridgette.  She was my girl....and I will love her always.

Here is a photo -- Bridgette is in the bottom right hand corner, doing what she loved:  sleeping...LOL

I am so sorry for your loss. Life is never the same when we lose one we love so much. We just learn to take one day at the time. After awhile, we learn to focus more on memories of the good times. I hope your memories will bring you peace and comfort. Bridgette was a blessed cat to have had a family who loved her and took such good care of her. Rest in peace dear girl. Your suffering is over.
