Would it be normal for my cat to leak clear fluid from his wound after a bladder surgery with abdominal irrigation?

Is it alright to give him a quarter asprin for pain?

No aspirin! It's toxic to cats, so I would not risk even a quarter pill. The vet who did the surgery is the best person to ask, both for safe pain meds and the discharge. I'm surprised they sent you home without post-op care and what to expect as well as pain meds or a Rx for pain meds.

We live a remote part of Zimbabwe. The vet that operated is newly trained. It was an emegency because he had a blockage and his bladder was very full. She found his bladder in a very raw state and found a leak had developed. She irrigated the peritonium very well. Then started him on a strong antibiotic, which she said she could only repeat in 48 hours. She gave him an injection for pain when she left. Unfortunitly he was home still slightly under anstheasthetic and very wet from the irrigation. he was so weak when he came home. She did say he had a poor prognosis.... This liitle guy has so far managed well. He started to lap water the next day and even attempted very small amounts of wet food. But, today is day 3 and he has had a leakage of fluid from the wound. The vet said it most likely is the irrigation coming out. I feel so far away from the world and he really does look uncomfortable..... I wish I knew what to do? I am starting to feel that our vet is out of her league.....

Will this vet give you a prescription for buprenex/buprenorphine? It's an effective pain med for cats without being as risky as something like metacam/meloxicam which is hard on the kidneys and labelled for one-time use in the US. They come in either pre-filled syringes or a bottle that you can draw from yourself.

If the vet thinks the discharge is fluid leaking out, I would not be too worried then. If the discharge turns any color other than clear, then I would start worrying.

I'm so sorry you and your boy are going through this. It is very good that he is drinking and eating on his own. It is so important to his recovery. Try to tempt him to eat as much as possible with whatever works, tuna water, his favorite treats, baby food, even deli meats short-term. He needs to eat at least 1/2 to 2/3 of his normal caloric intake to prevent fatty liver.

I agree with vball, nutrition and hydration are very important right now. Whatever he will eat...just keep him eating.

For what it is worth, it sounds like irrigation fluid to me too. Watch for foul smell, pus or cloudy fluid, blood, or a red/angry wound site. Clear, pink, watery discharge is usually OK.
