I think there is a bug going around because all 20 my cats are sick most likely uri tomorrow morning one of my cats Sylvia has her appointment is in the morning to get antibiotics I'm going to see if the vet will give me meds for the other cats they all have eye goop so I'm taking there pictures to show the vet for proof

Hope my cats will be fine any tips I can get to make my cats comfortable ? I been wiping there eyes free of the goop and there noise etc

And yes I'm taking my cat in and get meds for all

Here's hoping your kitty krew gets better quickly.  Recently, (with the robust exception of two in my clowder) became very sick with calicivirus.  My oldest Shelby, developed mouth ulcers from the virus and had to visit the vet and get antibiotics.  The rest I treated with colloidal silver drops; put into their water bowls, that I got from a health food store.  You can also put the colloidal silver on cotton balls and wipe their eyes with it, that should be very soothing for them and help heal the infection.

Yikes! I dread that ever happening to me. . .fortunately, when mine do catch something, it seems to go in waves so only 3 or 4 are sick at one time. It's been ages since anyone has been sick, though, and I hope they stay healthy.

Can you get some lysine to put in their food or water? That really helps with URIs. Colloidal silver sounds good, too, but I haven't tried it personally. Keep them on wet food only while they're sick, so they don't get dehydrated. Maybe even add some extra water. Make sure everyone is eating enough.

Vets aren't supposed to give antibiotics without seeing the pet, but a lot of older farm vets are more realistic than that and will do it. But I try to avoid antibiotics until truly necessary.

I got the antibiotics she gave them clavamox liquid

Quick question can cats have ACV while taking clavamox? I forgot to ask the vet

I'm sorry you're going through this
. If you want to use a natural remedy too I would stick with l-lysine and colloidal silver. I have used both on my cats with great results.

Do you mean apple cider vinegar when you say ACV?

I would let the clavamox do its job and not worry with the ACV for a while.

I would think that sterile saline eye wash for humans would be fine. Not eye drops, just saline.

Are their eyes matted shut? Or just goopy?

So long as they are able to drain, then they'll be fine. Yes saline is salt and water, but do not try to make it yourself. It's a specific concentration in sterile water. By a store brand to save $$.

You could try taking them in the bathroom after you get it steamy with a hot shower for a few minutes. The warm steam can help loosen congestion so they are a little more comfortable.

Hope they're all feeling better soon.

Great advice!

I have to giggle at the vision in my head of trying to step out of my shower with 20 cats on the floor...lol!

I am editing this because when I said just another day on TCS I was referring to peaches post about having 20 cats in the bathroom. I didn't mean it's just another day when you have sick cats. I hope nobody took it that way.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
Awww...... :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: !!!!

We only have 8, but like Willowy, when I bring something in from the ferals outside, thankfully it seems to roll through in waves, not everyone at once (knock wood).

It usually takes a few days to see improvement, but be sure that everyone finishes the meds as prescribed. Even though they look/feel better, you can create superbugs by not finishing antibiotics because the stronger bugs that didn't die yet can develop resistance to the Clavamox. You already see how rough it can be to treat 20 cats with a fairly easy to administer med...a superbug would mean more expensive antibiotics and possibly trickier administration!

You can use the saline to wipe noses too. Using a clean cloth, wipe eyes first (if needed) then noses.
