Looks like we may be getting kitty #17 next week! She's been at the shelter since June, had a litter and raised them, they've all been adopted. She's been up for adoption since 8/5 but no takers.
She is a gorgeous, friendly girl! There is a pic of her on Petfinder, follow my signature link and look for No Name:Update. That's her! I was holding her today when we went in to update the Petfinder listings, and she was purring up a storm, nuzzling me and giving me kisses.

Still working on a name for her. Since she is a black cat, it's near Halloween, and we're both Pagan, it's looking like we might go with Samhain (pronounced Sow-en, the Celtic name for Halloween), or something like that. Will keep you posted!

She is pretty. I looked at "No Name" too and she is a beauty also! Hasn't been there quite as long.

When will you know?

We'll know Monday after closing time, which is 5 PM, I'm to call the shelter manager. If she doesn't get adopted tomorrow or Monday, then she is ours. They have been overloaded with cats again, and sadly there have been euthanizations lately.
Her time is running out, and she deserves a chace for a good life.

It's tough to pick one cat when you know it is likely that one you don't pick may be put to sleep. I just keep praying that there are more adoptions than surrenders. It does happen, just not lately.

When we were there today, an older couple came in with a cat carrier and stated, "We want to donate a cat." Tybalt and I almost choked. "Donate" is not even close to an appropriate term...they were told that the shelter is above capacity and no one could guarantee more than 24 hours for the cat; when we left they were still debating whether or not to go ahead with their "donation." I hope they changed their minds.

She is beautiful and I hope you take her. I wish we could adopt all of the cats at our local humane society, but instead we mail them money or visit and put money in their box often.
You are a very generous person - keep up the good work!

OMG donate a cat! Some people are just sick!! She is a very pretty girl. I don't know who you guys do it. Me and rich do not even go near the shelter in fear that we will fall in love with another cat.

I wish we could adopt them all, too. We say that if we ever hit the lottery, the first thing we do is call the shelter manager and tell him that effective immediately, his is a no kill shelter and we will subsidize them.

Ok, maybe that will be the second thing we do, after jumping up and down like fools screaming our heads off!

Donate a cat ??? Are they out of their minds ? I do hope also that they took that cat back home .

This is the risk of volunteering with Petfinder, we are in the shelter twice a week.

The one thing that makes it worthwhile is the feedback we're getting. Adoptions are up significantly since we started their Petfinder site in July, and many, many people mention they've come in to see and adopt a pet they saw on Petfinder. Some even print out the page and bring it in with them!

It is crushing to go in and find out, as we did today, that 4 healthy cats were put down simply because there was no more room. We can't save them all, but we can do the most we can to save as many as possible.

It is very tough for black cats in general, with the superstition persisting that they are bad luck. And this is a very dangerous time of year for them, too. It is sad but true that this time of year, some deranged people adopt black cats, dogs, rabbits, etc and torture and kill them. A lot of shelters by us won't adopt out black cats from 10/1 through 11/1 for this reason.

I personally love black cats!!!

I have very bad luck with black cats, they are my unicorn
Sebastian is all black with a TINY white dot, I call it his safty spot. I always wanted a black cat but everytime I get one something horrible happens to either stop me from getting it or too the kitty
so no solid black kitties for me

Val, I just can't seem to adopt a white one!
I have tried twice and both times someone else was picked from the applications to adopt. This was before I had all these kitties, too

I figure, we're missing:

White
Calico
Tuxedo
Black and White
Grey and White

We've got the other colors covered, some more than once!

My next door neighbours had to move a few years ago to Germany and they had a black fem. cat . She was to old to fly and used to the outside . So I took care of her in the 2 years they were over seas . And 1 week befor they come back from Germany the cat just disapeart (sp) and never come back . The cat was acting a little funny in her last few weeks , so I think she wend to kittie heaven .I also had a black cat in Germany but endet up giving him to my Grandmother due to my personal broblems I had . But both cats were kind of differend then other cats . I think black cats have diferend a personality .

I adopted Midnight in September 1992, two weeks after moving into my first apartment. He and I have been together ever since, and Goddess willing, will be together for many years to come. He is my very best friend, my soul kitty.

Romeo's been with us since March 2003, 7 months. Feels like he has always been a part of the family, he fit in so well right from the start. He doesn't have a mean bone in his body, and we often find him and Osiris curled up together.

OMG! That is so true what you all are saying about people not wanting black cats. That is one of the reasons why I fell in love with them in the first place because some people are just so afraid of them or think they are bad luck. I think that is so wrong! They are cats just like any other cat except for the color of their fur (skin) which is not a reason to not except them! This makes me so angry! I have always been attracted to black cats and I know this is part of the reason. I love all cats but I feel so sorry for the black ones that people don't accept or adopt just because of this stupid idea they have in their heads about superstition or whatever.
