Happy Sunday everybody
.

Today's question is What makes a house a home?

I'm sure the kitties are the first answer for most of us on this site
. Anything else that gives a new place that homey feeling? I like homemade quilts, floral linens, lace curtains, pictures, books and something good cooking in the crock-pot LOL.

Brewing coffee!! that has to be one of the nicest smells in the world ever, or the smell of a freshly baked cake.  Or if its winter the fire on and the curtains shut!

Books on bookcases!  Lots of them!  My dreamcatcher in the bedroom.  A well-stocked and organized kitchen (the kitchen was the first place that gets unpacked whenever I move).  My mom's quilt.  Shower curtains.  The smell of dragonsblood incense.  And yes, a cat or more, of course!

Great question!

And of course when the cats feel at home.

I like to put stuff in my home that has that 'Country Feeling'' like plaques, cooking racks etc...

I would also like to have alot of  built in shelves with Stephen King & James Patterson books .

For me, it's little things that I've had and/or used for years - an afghan my grandmother crocheted, some monkey figurines my brother used to keep on his bookcase headboard, candlesticks my mom gave me, etc..

For me, it's family pictures hanging on the walls or sitting in frames on tables.  Any painting's you have hanging up also makes me feel that I am home.  I never liked empty walls, pictures just makes it more at home, for me anyway.

I agree, family pictures make it homey to me... also the smell of something wonderful cooking, the kitties and my moms front room table set.

For me it's mostly the smell. . .In the summers I love to boil lavender oil so the whole house smells like it and it's so soothing, in the autumn and winter I like to boil cinnamon. Also the smell of baking pumpkin cheesecake does it for me, I just feel so welcomed.

The smell of freshly baked bread. Or the smell of cinnamon when I have a container of bread pudding or a pan of sticky buns baking in the oven.

On a wintery day when it's snowing outside and the wind is howling around the house, I like to go to bed with a good book. The electric blanket is up on High and there are cats all over the bed with me. Rick is back in the bedroom, too, with the tv turned on to a football game (NOT the Eagles....that takes away the feeling of comfort when he's yelling at the Eagles). It just feels so comforting to me, knowing that we're safe and sound and the cats are warm and cosy.
