No one can tell you if your cat will come home, but what I can tell you, is you need to get out there and look for her! Knock on doors, inform your neighbors, and post signs TONIGHT of your cat. Anywhere and everywhere. I think when a cat gets out, you have a very important window of time where people in the immediate area will see or find your pet. The longer you wait to take action, the further the cat can get from home or the longer it can bond with someone who found it, who may decide to make it a permanent pet. Does your kitty have a collar with ID? A microchip? I would start searching immediately, cats don't always respond when called especially if they get out and they're scared. They'll likely hunker down silently and just hide out, even if they see or hear you calling. I would probably also look around with her favorite food, something smelly like canned food or tuna that she can smell. Or leave it by your door so she can smell her way back. I hope your kitty wanders back home!

In 2009 my 2 year old male got out like yours did...I was lucky as I had him chipped when I got him...he was gone for four months and I got him back..as the crow flies he was never more than 500 yds from my house (the next subdivision over)..this lady began feeding him and decided to keep him...took him to our local vet for a check up...they scanned him for a chip and voila...do a search on here for my thread "after 4 longs months he's back" and see what I did and went thru..this much I know..your cat is scared being out of its safe zone of your house..if you saw it on the street it probably wouldn't come to you when called because its so confused....good luck..

Earlier this year, Sugar got out and immediately vanished. I spent the next 4 days looking and calling for her, day and night. One night it started raining, and I heard her outside, but couldn't see her. I ran outiside in just my undies (In 32 degree weather with blowing rain and snow), saw her, but she wouldn't come to me. I went back inside, toweled off, put some clothes back on, went back out and she was ready to come in by then.

I llive in heavy woods, with bears, coyotes, bobcats and a mountain lion for neighbors.

When she came in, she was not dirty, had no stickers or scratches on her. She must not have been more than a couple of hundred feet away all the time. I would bet she was watching me and catlaughing.

You live in an apartment that is in a building, right? What floor do you live on? Are there stairwells, elevators? My first thought is that someone else has her. Have someone go with you and start knocking on all the doors on your floor.

And when you get her back, have her spayed right away. :)

Last night I found my cat thanks to your advice. I had looked for my cat for about an hour. It was dark and cold. I live in the country and near the highway. I didn't know what to do. I searched through the Internet and read some advices. Your advice made a lot of sense and that's what I used. She was hiding in the brush of my next door neighbor's house. I called out her name, I made noises with her favorite toy and her snack bag and open a can of her favorite food. She came out of her hiding place after about 10 minutes. I was very pleased. Thank you for the advice.

So happy for you.  Nothing worse than when they disappear like that.  Have had that happen to me and so I know exactly how you felt.
