Vet taking me for a ride?

Hey guys.  I need your opinion on something here...

I took my 2 year old cat to the vet for urinating everywhere and the vet diagnosed her with crystals.  But during that I mentioned that my cat had problems with her hips so I requested an x-ray.  She has hip dysplasia.  But my issue is that during the x-ray the vet noticed that the Belle had some white areas the lungs, indicating fluid.  The doctor put her on Salix and prednisone for the fluid.  The last x-ray showed it cleared up 70% but wants us to come back in three weeks for more x-rays.  Is the vet taking me for a ride here?  The cat seems completely normal to me and has never had any issues with her lungs.  My husband is furious over the vet bills and does not want me to take her back for the next set of x-rays.  This will be x-ray #4.  It does seem kind of excessive?

My gut says it is over the top, but if anything does happen to this little sweetheart, my 6 year old daughter (and I) will be devastated.

Thanks for your thoughts!

I think you need to find out what the vet diagnosis was that resulted in the Salix and prednisone being prescribed. Taking multiple x-rays may be the only way the vet can know whether the treatment is working. It makes no sense to me to be upset simply because the vet has taken some number of x-rays. There may well be good reason for follow up x-rays.

Thanks.  The vet said it was either heart worms, pneumonia, FIV or leukemia (though given they are indoor cats and tested at adoption the last 2 are unlikely).  He gave me a choice to test or to treat for the first 2 and see if there was improvement and I chose the latter because the tests were very costly.

Yeah... makes no sense to me either... except that my DH makes no sense when it comes to spending money on anything.  :)

It sounds to me like your vet is being VERY thorough and wants your cat to get better. That is a good thing! Any kind of internal fluid build-up can be a sign of a serious issue. I hope your kitty feels better soon!

We have a cat who goes in monthly for xrays for a bladderstone were choosing to resolve...

sometimes the tests seem expensive upfront but if you look at the long run they are often cheaper.

I feel your vets just doing their job and if they feel your cat needs 1 more xray I would do it. Its a very small price to pay for a family member who can live 10-15-20 years. I'm not sure how much your xrays are but here we pay about $100 - $120 for the exam, xray his food and pills.

wishing you the best of luck and the kitty to.
