Hello there!

A month ago, my family decided to adopt 3 adorable orphan 9 week old kittens (now they are 3 months old). They have been dewormed and received their first vaccination. Around 2 weeks ago, one of them got a pink eye- and the vet said that he had the flu. The vet also expressed that the other 2 kittens were probably infected too, but they didn't show symptoms. Today, I just noticed that my kittens has weird brown/black stuff on/around their nose + one has got a black spot on his cheek.

I have pictures of each of them before and after.

Nova:

A few days ago, he escaped and went out the door. However, we found him under our neighbour's car and he had motor oil on his chin and paw, so we had to give a bath. Ever since then, he's been acting really hyper at times.. He jumps at us and then runs away (usually never did this before). Today, I found out he has a black spot on his left cheek.

He has some dark stuff around the left side of his nose.

Starr:

He has brown spots on his nose.

Is this all because of the flu? They are playing, eating, drinking, pooping fine though!

Thank you for reading this! (I worry way too much)

When I saw the title of the thread, I was expecting feline acne. But this doesn't look like acne. I hate to say it, but I'd bring one of them to the vet for an opinion. I'm not familiar with this being part of cat flu.

...and WOW are they adorable!

Would the thread starter (akifusa) care to share what this skin condition turned out to be? May help the rest of us who found this thread later.

It's 4 and a half years ago this thread was last active, and this was their one and only post, good luck with that!

TN, it's good to bring up old threads if they match what you are looking for, or you can click on Forums and then Post own Thread and do your own. If the black is a discharge, it is mucous that is bacterial laden and once exposed to air the bacteria turns black. If the black is actually permanent, and a part of the skin, it is caused by sun and is a freckle/mole.I have had cats with both these conditions. The mucous can be cleared up with and antibiotic, teh freckles are permanent but avoiding the sun or applying an infant sunscreen will help prevent others. Look on the ingredients for one that has no zinc or salicylates. Welcome to the site!
