hi!

i have a kitten shes a few weeks new to the family

nice and sweet and all but

i have 2 dogs

a some what big dog

and a really small dog

my cat (the one in the picture)

will often go after and pounce on the smaller dog

really sometimes my smaller dog wont really be bother by it shes a bit of a push over

but my cat she will pounce on her bite her tail or heels

and i really want her to stop

my friend said when ever she does so just to scare her with a big nose

but then im afraid that when ever my dog is near her she'll be afaird to go by her

so i thought every time she does so ill put her in her carrier for a min or 2

the most she been in there in 1 day is about 10 min there were at seprate times of the day

she doesent like the carrier so much (i call it the dungon)

all she will do is whine till she gets out, she wont claw and hiss while shes in there just whine till i open the door

and right when i open the door she'll purr for a little while then go runing after my smaller dog

i guess she find my smaller dog as pray or something

Hi ShyloMangacat...

Your new kitten doesn't see your little dog as prey... she sees him as a playmate!  That is how kittens play with each other.

Are you sure the dog can't just look after herself with this?  As you say, she doesn't seem bothered.. it's really just you who doesn't like it.

Distraction is a good idea.. when your kitten chases the dog, start to play with her... dandle a feather on a stick and get her to chase it.  This will help to wear her out.

But, honestly, it's just a kitten being a kitten..  If she's not really hurting the dog, and the dog isn't looking concerned, I would just let it be.

And you don't want her to start seeing the carrier as punishment. What will happen when you have to take her to the vet? She will think she is being punished and will start fighting and throwing a fit.

Keep the kitten's claws trimmed and she will be less likely to hurt the dog.

Yep, she's teething and she's a kitten!!  Everything you're describing is very kitteny behaviour . smile.gif

When she tries to play with bits of you, distract her with something else.  And never use your hands or feet as 'toys' .. she needs to know that hands are for patting and food biggrin.gif
