I'm filling in for Lauren today. :heart2:

Today's question is:

"How often do you actually write out a check?"

I do a lot of my banking online now and only write out maybe one check a month on average. I've had my checks for years now and am on the last pack, so will actually have to order more soon.

Personally, not often because all my bills come out my bank account through a system we call "Direct Debit".

The last cheque l wrote was to the Cat and Dog shelter when my friends Mother passed away 3 weeks ago. She wanted them to have donations instead of flowers

At work l do a cheque run every 2 weeks

Thank you, Karen.....

The last check that I wrote was back in October for my web space. And I don't really write the check. She has all my banking information and I give her the check number and date. Then I tear out the check from the book and destroy it. And write the information into the check registry.

So I "write" a check out once a year for my web space. (To be honest, I'm not responsible enough to take care of our checkbook. I used to be the one to pay the bills. But I would transpose numbers or forget to pay a bill. We overdrew the account one time because I transposed numbers. It was bad. In my defense, at that time, I was working third shift and had come home from work on a Saturday morning and was trying to pay bills. Rick found me asleep at the desk. After I overdrew the account, he took over the family finances and has been doing them ever since. And he does a great job.

Just for rent, mainly. Occasionally, I'll write a check for something at my school.

Never have. I don't deal with banks that often so I don't have a bank account or savings account.. I believe if you don't have cash I don't go in a store.

Personal checks were done away with here when euro notes and coins were introduced at the beginning of 2002, so it would have been some time prior to that. We pay all our bills by direct debit or credit transfer.

Not as many as I used to.  Been slowly transferring everything over to online bill payment.  I didn't think I'd like it as much.  But after we put the mortgage payment online, I realized how much easier it would be.  The only checks I write now are to the credit cards (1 we pay off every month, the other one has dd's violin I had to buy on credit b/c we didn't have 3K sitting around and neither did she), the cable company (dh has the password to that so he needs to pay it), church and the quarterly city taxes.

City taxes are next.  The way they set up automatic payments though is just strange.  There's a certain time of the year you can sign up to make automatic payments.  And the time had passed when I realized I could do so.  It would make life easier.  Instead of having a bill come in, and then having to make 2 mortgage payments 4x/ year (city taxes are almost as much as our mortgage- and our mortgage is cheap) you can split it up and have a smaller amount taken out every month.  I guess it's because the fiscal year starts the end of June, and their computer system can't figure out how to split up a city tax for the year?

Maybe about 5 a month on a regular basis---mortgage, donation, gas bill, credit card, city utility bill (includes electric, water, garbage collection, cable, & phone). For small businesses I try to pay by cash or check (usually check because I never remember to go to the ATM for cash! :lol3:), because credit/debit cards have a processing fee and I hate to cut into their profits. So this month I also wrote 2 checks to the vet for boarding the dogs when I went on vacation. I suppose I could put most bills on auto-debit, but since I work for USPS I kinda feel like I should send some mail now and then ;).

I use my credit card for just about everything else, but I do pay it off every month. Paying interest annoys me greatly :tongue2:. I don't usually carry any cash, except $10 in my car for emergencies. I have a debit card but I rarely use it, because the credit card gives cash back rewards :D.

I think I wrote one about 4 years ago. Direct debit is the way to go. Or I go the my bank's ATM, get what I need for the day, and when I run out of that , I am done shopping.

When I pay bills I use Krogers (cash) or I send in money orders. But I try to get to the cable company every month.

Guess I'm "old school" but I don't do on line banking. Write checks for bills as soon as I get them. I'm still very leary of on line banking.

I only wrote out a very few-probably 5 in my life. I NEVER write checks now.  I was in store few days ago and older woman was writing a check and I stopped to think of how it all used to be-checks and carbon copy credit card

Every other week usually. Well; DH does!  He handles the bills most of the time.  I don't think there is much we pay with check; mostly just the Title and Offering for church.  We could do that online too actually; we just don't.
